Today's Forecast

Image - tvacres.comIt's going to be an okay day, once the rain passes through. Should be gone by around 3PM. High of 72.

So Gothamist's mom is coming to NYC this weekend. She called last night to ask some important last-minute questions.

MOM: So what's the weather going to be like?
GOTHAMIST: Um, did you check weather.com?
MOM: Huh?
GOTHAMIST: Okay, let me check right now...
MOM: Just tell me this. Long pants or capri pants? Do people in New York wear capri pants?
GOTHAMIST: Mom, I've been in short pants for, like, two months.
MOM: What about sandals? You think I could just do sandals the entire time?
GOTHAMIST: Yeah, definitely.
MOM: And I should bring some comfortable walking-around shoes. Correct?
GOTHAMIST: Yes, unless you plan on buying yourself a Rascal.
(BOYFRIEND, in background: Or $500 for cab fare!)
MOM: No, no Rascals for me, not yet.
GOTHAMIST: (checking weather.com) Okay, it's actually going to be kind of chilly this weekend. Highs in the low 70s and 50s at night.
MOM: Oh, that sounds perfect! Okay, one pair of long pants. Just one pair. I'm trying to keep it down to one carry-on.
GOTHAMIST: Sounds good.
MOM: What do your hair appliances look like?
GOTHAMIST: Hair dryer, curling iron, Helen of Troy
MOM: My hair's so short now...okay, I'll bring a curling iron, it's small, it'll just slip right in there. Are you sure about the capri pants?
GOTHAMIST: Yes, mom. People in New York wear capri pants.
MOM: Should I bring an umbrella?
GOTHAMIST: Mooooom.

Related: Laura Petrie (pictured) and the birth 'o the Capri. Have fun this weekend--and don't go to the beer garden. Please, stay away from the beer garden, because you've been hogging it for two weeks, and now it's MY TURN.

If the weather clears, tonight's sunset will be impressive due to the alignment of the setting sun with Manhattan's street grid (which also occurs on July 12).
