Flip Flop Friday

Flip Flops are not thongsWhile the weather continues to get warmer and nicer, the transition from spring dress code to early summer wear is rapidly progressing. Many people go all out with the attitude that once you switch, that's it, which can be dangerous given the erratic temperatures we've been having. Of particular note is the issue of footwear. Our friend Sandy brought up the upcoming flip flop season and Gothamist wonders what is the protocol for the correct time to switch to flipflops (Gothamist does not like the word "thongs"... thongs are---- very different) ? We are big fans of the flip flop. They are comfy, convenient, make fun noises, and are relatively inexpensive, or were anyway before they started to become more and more trendy. But they aren't always the best choice even in sweltering heat. A day in flip flops on the city streets can result in a nasty crust of "black crap" on your feet that is pretty gross. If it starts to rain (or you get your feet wet in other ways), they immediately become a slippery health hazard. And doctors say that despite their comfort, they aren't good for your feet because they provide no support. But we are still big fans of the flimsy footwear and are anxiously preparing to make the switch to naked toes.

What I want to know is, has anyone bought those flip-flops from Urban Outfitters (or the Gap) that have those kitten heels on them? If so, are they actually walk-in-able? Do tell.

you gotta love flip-flops! bummer though, I just learned that they're not allowed at my new place of employment, not even the fancy dressed up versions.

I say why ever change your attire? That's why I wore shorts in the winter when I lived in NY. That and the building was always too darn hot. But really, the occasional pant for some snow shoveling and then right to shorts. Down with pants! Viva la shorts!

Now flip-flops, you can skip those year round. I likes my toes protected thank you very much.

Flip flops in the snow would be fun.... in the grimy slush would be gross. In the "mystery puddle" on a subway platform is kind of sketchy as well.

Those kitten heeled flip flops were hot when Sigerson Morrison introduced them last year. I'm too scared to try them out. But one reason why flip flops are nice is that apparently people have tons of nerves in between their big toe and second toe, so have the "thong" part there is very stimulating.

Panda flip flops!

How weird! I must be wearing the wrong ones, cause I certainly haven't been experiencing any, um, stimulation--though (sorry haters) I've been totally flopped out for nearly a month. I think the start of flip-flop season is closely related to pedicure season, though there may be a couple of unofficial early weeks where it's okay to wear them sans pedicure. Not that a lack of pedicure ever came between us.

Eccch.
Flip-flops are so skeeeeeevy!
