Quick, call the locksmith! Before Thursday's Yankees-Tigers game, Mayor Bloomberg gave away yet another key to the city. • Yankees 6 Tigers 1: In desperate need of starting pitching the Yankees turned to a reliable source. Andy Pettitte threw eight innings of five-hit ball shutting down the Tigers’ offense and giving his team a chance to win.

• Yankees 11, Indians 2: We thought things were supposed to be tougher for the Yankees when they played winning teams, but that doesn't seem to be the case. While Mike Mussina allowed one run in the first inning, the Yankees scored all they would need in the second when they tagged Paul Byrd for 7 runs. The inning included a two-run homer by Alex Rodriguez, who added another two-run shot in the 8th inning. While each Yankees starter had a hit, Jose Molina had four hits and Derek Jeter had three for the 2nd night in a row. The home runs by A-Rod continues his streak of home runs against Cleveland this year. He's now hit one in each of the five Yankees-Indians games this season.
• Marlins 7, Mets 5: It was looking good for win #301 for Tom Glavine until the Mets bullpen entered the game. Handed a 3-1 lead in the 7th inning, Guillermo Mota proceeded to load the bases full of fish (he inherited 1 runner, to be fair) before giving up a grand slam to Josh Willingham. The Mets bailed Mota out in the bottom of the 7th, scoring two runs to tie the game, but Aaron Heilman was quick to give the Marlins the lead again in the 8th inning. David Wright had two home runs (two-run and solo) to the left field bleachers in the loss.
• Doubledays 3, Cyclones 0: Auburn took the lead with a two-run bases loaded single in the 1st and never looked back. Brett Cecil and three relievers held the Cyclones to five hits in the victory.

Last Sunday, Mets pitcher Tom Glavine finally won his 300th career game with a victory over the Chicago Cubs. To honor Glavine, Mayor Bloomberg presented the 41-year old lefty the Key to the City on Wednesday. This was enough to upset at least one New Yorker.

• Mets 8, Cubs 3: The pitcher's win is among the most overrated stat in baseball. When you pick up 300 of them, however, you probably don't stink. Surefire Hall-of-Famer Tom Glavine fits that description, though he was a legend long before he reached an arbitrary cutoff point. He went 6 1/3 innings to pick up his 300th career win in Chicago as the Mets took two of three from the Cubs. The veteran lefty was economical and showed good control until he tired in the seventh. Then he watched the bullpen hold the lead. A three-game showdown with the Braves looms.
• Yankees 8, Royals 5: With all due respect to Hideki Matsui and his 100th career homer, the only milestone the Yankees care about is being a half-game out of a playoff spot. Not bad for a team that has been written off time and time again this season. They haven't accomplished anything yet, of course, but their chances seem good considering how wild-card foes Detroit and Cleveland have looked of late. Mike Mussina's improvement has been a major part of the Yankees'. He controlled the Royals' sometimes-dangerous lineup to pick up the win.
• Staten Island 13, Hudson Valley 8: What can make you feel better an 8-0 lead in the final three innings? Scoring five in the top of the 10th to avoid the embarrassing loss. They cost Jason Stephens the win, but in the end, they'll breathe a sigh of relief and move on.

• Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a person under a train at New Utrecht Ave. and 62nd St. in Brooklyn, a man overboard approximately 23 miles south of Floyd Benett Field (lower bay), and a shooting on East 13th St. and Ave. B. in Manhattan.
• A grand jury is deciding whether the off-duty cop who shot a man during a fender-bender will be charged.
• A 23-year-old former aide of Councilman Dennis Gallagher testified before a grand jury that he sexually harassed her 2 1/2 years ago when she volunteered at his office.
• The widely lauded August Aichorn Center for Residential Care on West 106th St. in Manhattan is under fire after workers at the facility for seriously troubled young people allegedly sexually preyed on the inpatients, repeatedly raping them.
• Everyone knows the eternal NYC burger institutions, but New York magazine points out some good burger joints new to the scene.
• Passengers headed back to New Jersey after a night in Manhattan were delayed for several hours after a train became stuck in one of the tunnels leaving Penn Station. The train got stuck about 200 feet from the platform and approximately 900 passengers had to evacuate to another train.
• Yankee A-Rod has hit his 500th HR; now let's root for Mets pitcher Tom Glavine pitching his way to win #300 tonight.
• Martha Stewart's daughter is paying almost $30K a month to get pregnant.

• Yankees 16 White Sox 3: Is it really possible that the Yankees could tie a club record by belting eight home runs, yet somehow Alex Rodriguez would be about the only person not to get one? Somehow, that’s exactly what happened Tuesday as every starter except for A-Rod, Jeter and Andy Phillips went deep and Hideki Matsui did twice. Shelly Duncan continued his Shane Spencer imitation by belting his 4th home run in 21 AB’s.

• Mets 13, Dodgers 9: While Tom Glavine was on the mound attempting to win his 299th career game, the Mets were trying to win their first game against the Dodgers this year. In an trip to Los Angeles earlier this season, the Mets were swept in a three game series. The Mets jumped out to a 6-run lead in the first inning last night and never trailed, but Glavine couldn't keep the Dodgers from scoring in his brief outing. Then again, no pitcher seemed to have an answer for either team's offense in this game. Although Glavine didn't come close to winning his 299th victory, the Mets did finally pick up a win in L.A. In the combined 22 run slugfest, Glavine was removed after only two innings, allowing 10 hits and 6 earned runs. Derek Lowe, the starter for the Dodgers, hardly fared better - 10 hits and 8 earned runs over three innings. Each position player that started the game for the Mets, had at least one hit. The two teams combined for 35 hits in the game.
• Blue Jays 3, Yankees 2: The Yankees were going for a four-game sweep of Toronto and for their 6th win in a row. All was well until they reached the 7th inning. Chien-Ming Wang pitched well through 6, holding the Jays scoreless, but it all unraveled in the 7th when Wang allowed Toronto to score 3 runs. The Yankees jumped to a quick two-run lead in the 1st inning, but Toronto starter Dustin McGowan shut them down for the rest of the time he was pitching, allowing only 4 total hits over 7 innings. Wang was eventually pulled from the game in the 8th inning after already giving up the go ahead run in the 7th. The Yankees start another four-game series Friday against the Devil Rays, who they took three of four from just last week.
• Crosscutters 4, Cyclones 2: The Cyclones fell to Williamsport for their first loss in seven games. Brooklyn had a one run lead entering the 7th, but the Crosscutters scored 3 unearned runs to take the lead for good. Brooklyn scored only one run in the 8th despite having the bases loaded and were unable to score in the 9th despite having two runners on base with no outs.

• Yankees 5 Minnesota 1: It should have been a great night at the ballpark. Roger Clemens became only the 8th pitcher to win 350 games and Bobby Abreu hit a monster home run, into the middle of the upper-deck in right, but it was all overshadowed by A-Rod.

Shawn Green had a big night at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and home run, while driving in three. The two Carlos’s both got two hits and the Mets finally got to enjoy an easy night at the ballpark.

• Mets 2, Yankees 0: Poof! Just like that, the Mets' five-game losing streak and the Yankees' nine-game winning streak have been snapped. Oliver Perez shut down the Yankees for the second time this season, and Roger Clemens was good but not good enough in the loss. Jose Reyes and Carlos Gomez -- the two Mets speedsters and fans of untucking their jerseys within seconds of the final out -- supplied the two Mets runs. Given the teams' divergent paths of late, the Mets probably needed this game more. Their bullpen, a source of weakness during their stumbles, shut down the Yankees late. With Tom Glavine going against Tyler Clippard on Saturday, the Mets probably have the edge. Then again, Clippard already has one strong start against the Mets -- in his Major League debut.
• Sky 73, Liberty 66: Things don't look as rosy for the Liberty, losers of three of four. Shameka Christon and Tiffany Jackson were the only people in double figures, but they and their teammates didn't shoot that poorly or play that bad defense.

• Yankees 13 Pirates 6: It’s official, the Yankees are on fire. Sunday they completed their sweep of the Pirates, bludgeoning them behind two home runs from Alex Rodriguez and a 4-4 day from Bobby Abreu. The win was their sixth in a row and leaves them one game below .500 and 9 ½ back in the division.

• Yankees 8, Red Sox 3: A loss would have dropped the Yankees 11 1/2 games back. Although they wouldn't have admitted it, losing two of three to Boston would have forced some early wild-card thoughts. Instead, the Yankees are within 9 1/2 games and have some life. For the second time this season, Andy Pettitte outperformed Curt Schilling, but Wednesday's game ended up better for the Yankees than did the one April 22, when the bullpen blew it. The list of teams that have come back from double-digit deficits to win divisions is short. Any talk of a righted ship for this Yankees team is premature -- they've played poorly enough that three wins in four games won't persuade anyone they're out of the funk. But this game became plenty more important in the Yankees' minds because they won.

Tom Glavine wasn’t at his best and Chicago jumped out to a 4-0 lead. David Wright cut that in half with a home run that barely cleared the fence in right. In the sixth, the Mets tied the game off of a LoDuca double and an Easley sacrifice fly.

• Yankees 8 Rangers 2: It’s amazing what some pitching can do for you. For the second night in a row and for only the 5th time in 31 games, the Yankee starter pitched seven innings. Tuesday night Andy Pettitte scattered seven hits while striking out four.

• Yankees 4, Rangers 3: The storms have passed in Texas, and the Rangers and Yankees played two. In game 1 of the doubleheader, everything was normal as Andy Pettitte pitched for six strong innings. While he left the game with the lead, Luis Vizcaino was unable to hold the 3-2 lead as the Rangers tied the game in the 7th. Derek Jeter singled in the 8th inning to extend his hitting streak to 19 games and Hideki Matsui doubled to score Jeter. Mariano Rivera pitched a perfect 9th inning for his 2nd save of the season.
• Yankees 5, Rangers 2: Mike Mussina returned to the rotation and the Yankees won to swept the three-game series with the Rangers. Maybe they need to get rained out and play doubleheaders more often. Off the DL for a hamstring injury, Mussina had a 75-pitch limit, but only threw 64 before leaving the game in the 5th inning, allowing 1 run and picking up his first win of the season. Just like game 1, Derek Jeter got a hit (his 20th game in a row) and Mariano Rivera got a save (his 3rd of the season and 2nd game in a row). Maybe this series is the turning point of the season for the Yankees.
• Mets 9, Diamondbacks 4: Just last week against the Rockies, Damion Easley hit a game-tying home run in extra innings. Last night, with the Mets down 4-3 in the 9th inning, Easley hit a three-run homer, giving the Mets the go ahead runs they would need for the win. David Wright, who looks like he's coming out of his slump, added another three-run home run in the 9th, giving the Mets 6 runs in the inning. While Tom Glavine, who was looking for his 294th victory, didn't get the win, he did get his 2,500th strikeout.
