A man suspected in 14 subway robberies since January was arrested yesterday in North Carolina. Rasheem Williams, 37, who had been one of the NYPD's most wanted criminals, was apprehended, as were two other fugitives wanted by the cops, in Rocky Mount, N.C.

Police have identified a subway mugger who has pulled off a total of 13 robberies, including ones in each of the four boroughs the trains run in. Police are hunting for Rasheen Wallace (pictured), a career criminal who has 18 prior arrests for petit larceny, trespass, possession of marijuana and served 8 years for robbery. Police describe him as "a smooth operator" who isolates his victims, sometimes targeting them in the last car and near the end of the line. Ten of the thirteen robberies in the spree that began early this year have targeted women, including one in Inwood where Wallace punched a woman the face when she refused to give up her purse. Another 27-year-old woman robbed in Washington Heights tells the News, "It was just me and another guy in the car. The next thing I know, there was a knife in my stomach...I don't feel safe. I'm thinking of taking a karate class." The Post has a map of the robbery locations and describes Wallace as wearing a Boston Red Sox cap.

Yikes: The police say that a woman was robbed at the Halsey Street subway station in Brooklyn on May 24. WABC 7 reports, "The woman was reportedly exiting the station at Wycoff Avenue and George Street through the high turnstile exit when a suspect, armed with a screwdriver, grabbed the bars and trapped the woman inside. He then stole the victim's property and fled in an unknown direction." The incident occurred around 1 a.m.

Welcome to the underground, Kevin Bacon. Fresh off of being swindled out of money invested in Bernie Madoff's Ponzi scheme, actor Kevin Bacon is apparently now riding the subways and discovering the criminal air down there. The Post reports that Bacon had his Blackberry stolen Thursday at the 7th Avenue and 53rd Street B, D, and E station in Manhattan. Sources tell the paper that Bacon raced after the thief, but "lost track of him as he ran through the station's crowd." The Post seems hard up for details—certainly not made any easier when the NYPD would not confirm the robbery—but the paper makes sure to rally a team of three punsters who really bring home the Bacon reporting that the star was "smoked," "not footloose enough" and "is a lot less than six degrees of separation away from a coveted cache of A-list celebrities and boldface names likely programmed into Bacon's 'Berry." While they can only speculate that the device includes the number of the "boo 'berry" belonging to wife Kyra Sedgwick "possibly along with dozens of other box office stars who have graced the big screen with Bacon," they do confirm that over one-third of subway robberies target mobile devices.

A man suspected of a series of subway platform purse snatchings was arrested and charged yesterday. Mark McIntosh was "led away handcuffed by police near Union Square" and he offered these words to the public--and his six victims, "I'm sorry for what I did. I apologize, deeply."

The police believe the same man who has robbed four female subway commuters last week stole the purse of another woman yesterday morning.
