After intense speculation about why the masseuse who discovered Heath Ledger's body last Tuesday called actress Mary-Kate Olsen multiple times, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly spoke to reporters yesterday to clear the air. Kelly said, "We believe that of the three phone calls by the masseuse to Mary-Kate Olsen, only one got through. That call was 99 seconds long."

Speaking of security measures, the Screen Actors Guild issued a warning yesterday to all of its NYC members not to buy or carry around NYPD costumes needed for various roles so as to avoid arrest. Where historically "the NYPD has issued letters signed by the police commissioner that explicitly permit Guild members to purchase police uniforms," the letter says, "in recent weeks it appears the NYPD has changed its policy."

Oh, Jerry. The Screen Actors Guild has given you a nomination for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Drama Series, a now-posthumous tribute to your work as Detective Lennie Briscoe on Law & Order. Though you face some tough (James Gandolfini in the Sopranos, Kiefer "Job/Sisyhpus" Sutherland in 24) competition, Gothamist feels your work ruled, because you created a character whose interior life we could imagine with just a wiggle of your eyebrow. We're just curious if the SAG voters will be swayed by your recent death and will hand you a trophy; we're unsure if that'd be crass or a fitting tribute.
