Oscar, Oscar: Liveblogging the Academy Awards 2007

7:06PM First thoughts: Gael Garcia Bernal is so cute. Ryan Seacrest is an idiot, as are Joan and Melissa Rivers. But we want to know what Jennifer Lopez is wearing! (It turns out to be Marchesa.)

Coming to an off Broadway stage near you this March: Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin and Jim Morrison in "27 Heaven". About, you guessed it, the most prominent members of The 27 Club. No word yet on where the show will run, the press release states that it's "the featured act at this year’s prestigious National Arts Club annual benefit on March 16 in New York...27 Heaven begins an extended run in New York’s off Broadway District in March 2007". THEATER: Previews start tonightfor the first U.S. production of Australian Gordon Graham's play The Boys, ferried here across the bigger pond by Outhouse Theatre Co. The title characters aren't boys in age, but they certainly are in their attitudes toward women: at a party celebrating one man's release from jail, he and two buddies grow increasingly angry at their girlfriends, and leave in a misogynistic huff. The next day a woman is found raped and murdered -- was it them? The play should provoke plenty of heated -- but hopefuly not too heated -- discussion among audience members. - Mallory Jensen

Rather Ado About Something

Gothamist loved this headline from Jay Rosen's Pressthink: From what we can tell, the Internet doesn't enter the mainstream media until at least six months out. Anyway, some wonder if there's a blog backlash in the making (from CBS Marketwatch, no less) and whether or not blogs get the facts straight. Other wonder if this will speed up Rather's retirement plans. The NY Times analyzes Dan Rather's apology, which makes us think of ESPN Page 2's What Was Dan Rather Thinking?, the Dan Rather watchdog site, Rather Biased, and Gawker's Dan Rather Death Watch.

Today's Forecast

Looks like high around 60, showers likely.
