Ever since Mickey Rourke's performance in The Wrestler has celebrated, the press has devoted many stories to his comeback—and how he credits his dogs with saving his life (he discusses them a lot during his awards acceptance speeches). Last week, his beloved dog Loki passed away but Rourke was able to keep Loki's memory with him on Oscar night by way of a necklace Queens resident Betina Wasserman sent him.
It was a touching, comeback moment when Mickey Rourke won the Golden Globe for Best Actor (in a Drama) for his role in The Wrestler. But when Rourke gave his acceptance speech, he not only thanked director Darren Aronosky, but he also busted his chops—to the point where Aronofsky gave Rourke the finger. Clearly, Aronofsky, a Brooklyn native, was smart enough to know that you can't censor a hand gesture. (And it's not even censored from the clip below!)
The Comedians of Comedy are performing at Irving Plaze on October 27th at 6 and 10:30 PM. Both shows will be hosted by Patton Oswalt, who will be joined by Brian Poshein, Maria Bamford, Eugene Mirman, John Mulaney, and some yet to be announced special guests. Last year's surprises included performances by David Cross, Nick Swardson, Jon Benjamin, and Jon Glaser. With such a line up, the event is certainly a night not to be missed. Gothamist got a hold of Patton to get his opinion on some of his past roles, politics, and where he likes to eat when he's in town.
That guy was screaming at the top of his lungs. Then he wants me to shake his hand. I said, “You’re drunk. I’m not gonna shake your hand.” But he kept pressing the issue, so I told the owner, “If he touches me, I’m gonna punch him in his fuckin’ mouth.” So the waiters tossed him out. He was really, really out of control—some big fuckin’ obnoxious fag.
