For the Giants, the opening of free agency saw them lose three players. Kawika Mitchell went to the Bills, Reggie Torbor to the Dolphins and Gibril Wilson to the Raiders. The loss of Wilson will hurt the most, but remember he was once a fifth-round pick. GM Jerry Reese proved last year that he is very good drafting players and won’t overpay in the free agent market, so don’t panic the Super Bowl champs will be just fine.

The Giants provided a miserable end to their season on Sunday. They were thoroughly dominated on both sides of the ball as Carolina humiliated them 23-0. It was the first time a home team had been shutout in the playoffs since 1979.
There is a lot of pressure heading into the 2005 football season on Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning. Coughlin must show that his authoritarian style can translate into wins and Manning must show that he deserved to be drafted first overall based on his talent and not his last name. Both coach and quarterback showed glimpses of promise last year, but this is the year they must build on it.
Hopefully the loss to Detroit two weeks ago woke this team up a little bit and the Giants will not look past the Bears or take anything for granted. Although its hard to figure what this Giants team will do week to week, we at Gothamist feel like the Giants will win this one going away and easily cover the nine point spread.
The Giants may not be winning pretty and they're certainly not getting all the headlines, but they're winning all the same and in the N.F.L. wins are what count. After yesterday's 26-10 victory over the Cowboys in Dallas Stadium, the Giants have already matched last season's win total and will go into their bye week with a 4-1 record and a 4-game winning streak.
