Last night marked the start of David Byrne's "No Boundaries" series at Carnegie Hall. It was the first performance in fifteen years of the complete music from his 1985 music-theater collaboration with Robert Wilson, The Knee Plays. Tonight he continues the four night event called "Welcome to Dreamland". The evening features a handfull of his favorite experimental folk rockers, including: Vashti Bunyan, Cibelle, CocoRosie, and Devendra Banhart. Each with sonic roots in 60s psychedelia, jam......

On the cusp of November, Music is a Better Noise opened up at P.S.1. The exhibit brings together musicians who make art and (you guessed it) artists who make music - or at the very least, use music as a creative motivator in their art. The exhibition is broken up in to two parts. The first part explores New York-based artists and musicians who emerged in the city during the mid-1970s to early 1980s, and......

We really love the Hotel Chelsea Blog, Living With Legends. We're not just saying that so they'll invite us over to play or give us a free room. We just really like reading reports from the front lines of where true rock n' roll behavior of past, present and future co-exist. Today they report on Devendra Banhart's recent visit to the hotel to shoot a video for his song Heard Somebody Say. Apparently he......

So we've been racking our brains as to what excuse Gothamist had at a music festival in Chicago, but we were there nonetheless and had an absolute blast. Compared to the mess that was Mccarren Pool on Saturday night, the Pitchfork Music Festival went off without a hitch. There was plenty of cheap beer, water and food for all. We spent a lot of time hanging out near the Fuze beverage tent, which provided shaded......

Gothamist headed down to Manchester, Tennessee with over 80,000 other music fans from across genres and across the world to take in Bonnaroo 2006. Three days of some of the best bands around from Jam to Jazz to Rap to Rock. We were up bright and early Friday morning to get the weekend off to the right start. Our first stop was to check out talented multi-instrumentalist Andrew Bird at the That tent. Yes, the......

Thank god the holidays are finally over and bands are getting back into the swing of things. Now we can sell off all our unwanted gifts on eBay (how much do you think we can get for a hypercolor "hip" bible?) and spend the cash on evil rock and roll, which is back with a vengeance in our fine, fine city. Why are secret shows never really a secret? The Mooney Suzuki play in semi-secrecy......

If you like quiet music, you can't beat the CMJ-sponsored lineup at Living Room tonight (Tuesday). Jose Gonzalez, making his U.S. debut, is a superstar in his home country of Sweden. You'll know why if you listen to his songs at Myspace. Doveman plays the show too. You might remember them from their appearance at Gothamist's Movable Hype and BroolynVegan's pre-CMJ concert. Up-and-comers Mike Wexler and Emm Gryner are also on the amazing (and......
