Stolen Vehicle Chase Causes Village Accident

A bicyclist and three pedestrians were injured as a man driving a stolen van jumped a curb in an attempt to escape the police. The incident occurred on Eighth Street, as the police - driving one of those undercover patrol cars that look like taxis - were pursuing the van up University Place. The driver "made a hard right onto Eighth," according to the Post, which also has pictures.

'cue Crazy

It seems like the five boroughs have gone slap happy mad for smokin', spicy barbecue. Is all of it up to snuff? Gothamist thinks not. But goodness knows, the selection has increased more than two-fold within the past year or so.

NYC To Parents: Watch Your Baby!

http://www.gothamist.com/archives/2003/09/12/stroller_mommy_gets_no_dough.php">husband was from New York, which makes that excuse pretty flimsy. The only baby that seems to have done okay when left alone was Moses, and those were extenuating circumstances. If there's one thing New Yorkers don't stand for, it's babies without their mommies or daddies, because we love accessories!

Stroller Mommy Gets No Dough

Anette Sorenson, the Danish mother who left her enstrollered child outside of Dallas BBQ while she and her husband had dinner, lost out on her attempt to demand money from the NYPD. Sorenson claimed she was stripsearched by the NYPD when arrested for child endangerment, the jury cited lack of evidence. The jury also indicated that if Sorenson were to prove she had been strip searched, she would only be entitled to 50 cents from each of the two police officers.

Leaving Your Baby Alone in the East Village

New York is reminded again of the strange parenting customs of the Danish with the return of Anette Sorensen and her lawsuit against the city. Back in 1997, Sorenson was visiting with her husband and baby. The couple ate inside the Dallas BBQ on Second Avenue in the East Village; the baby was parked in her stroller outside. Police then arrested Sorenson. While the city's child endangerment charges against her and her husband were eventually dropped (apparently it's de rigeur to leave your kid in a stroller on the street in Denmark), Sorenson sued for the city for $10 million, but was only awarded $1. Her current lawsuit is against the police who allegedly strip searched her.
