MUSIC: When we talked to Jonny Greenwood (pictured) back in October, Radiohead's In Rainbows wasn't the only focus. His composition titled Popcorn Superhet Receiver will be performed tonight by The Wordless Music Orchestra with Brad Lubman as conductor. When we asked Greenwood if he would be in attendance, he said "I’d love to but I can’t really justify the flight just to come to that. I’d feel a bit weird about it. If I was......

It's been five years since Jam Master Jay (Jason Mizell) was murdered in his Queens studio, and though some people have recently started piping up about who may have pulled the trigger - no suspect has been named. Moving forward -- his friends, family and fellow musicians have begun to get closure in other ways. Mizell's widow, Terri, started the Jam Master Jay Foundation for Music -- a non-profit that provides funding and resources to......

-Blue Jays 7, Yankees 5: No one cared about the score, but Derek Jeter's 1-for-5 performance cost him a chance at the American League batting crown. Minnesota's Joe Mauer took it home. As overrated a baseball statistic as batting average is -- on-base percentage is a better indicator of a player's value -- Jeter surely wanted the title. This has been the best season of his career -- in large part because of his on-base......

- Sunday evening at McCarren Park is the finals for Brooklyn Kickball. Not only will the winners of Sunday's game get to take home the Chuck D trophy, they will also be able to say they have the best hipster kickball team in all of New York City. The final four are: Tigers, Burninators (the defending champs), John Cougar Mellencamps (they wear cut off jeans), and NYC Fun Club. Semi-final games are at 7......

Over 200 bocce enthusiasts from around the New York City area will compete Saturday and Sunday to see who's got the best. The tournament is free and open to adults of all ages. As Steven Van Zandt was organizing the Save CBGB's concert in Washington Square Park yesterday afternoon, the CBGB's landlord, the Bowery Residents' Committee, announced they hoped "CBGB's will vacate the premises." However, CBGB's owner Hilly Kristal said, "We're going to fight. We deserve to be here. If they padlock the club, we're going to cut the locks." Little Stevie added that if there are court proceedings, supporters would be there with, too, making Gothamist wonder......

Gothamist just finished reading Please Kill Me and recently read that Lester Bangs book. Apparently there's nothing more punk rock than a book. So it's only fitting that another one deciphering the life and times of punk rock royalty has popped up. This one is called Let Fury Have the Hour: The Punk Rock Politics of Joe Strummer [by Antonino D’ Ambrosio]. And it comes with a kick ass rockshow at CBGB's [details below]. The......

If you're not busy either attending or protesting the RNC, there are more than a few things going on before the end of the work week. Tonight and tomorrow are particularly busy. The weekend isn't too bad, either, but things tend to calm down around a holiday. Tonight, the Bowery Ballroom is hosting a show to coincide with the Who's America benefit CD, released by Def Jux and System Recordings to raise voter awareness. The......

Today at noon, Air America, the liberal radio network, will go on the air, with Al Franken's daily show, "The O'Franken Factor." The Times looks at how the ambitions to bring a liberal voice to radio have outpaced the realities (Air America hasn't bought any stations yet - it's just bought time on five stations) as well as how the network's personalities have to remain enterataining as it competes with conservative voices Rush "Oxy-Contin" Limbaugh......

Even though its release is months away, Gothamist is excited for Will Ferrell's next movie, Anchorman. Watch the "trailer" (really early clips from Dreamworks) and see Ferrell play a pompous, chauvinistic anchorman from the 70s. He battles with a lady reporter played by Christina Applegate, and has a crack Action News team that includes Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd. The rest of the cast is pretty star-studded - Vince Vaughn, Fred Willard, Chuck D.,......
