Comedian Bernie Mac died in Chicago's Northwestern Memorial hospital this morning at the age of fifty. It was reported first by the Chicago Sun-Times after receiving a call from his publicist earlier this morning. Mac had been hospitalized earlier this week for pneumonia. Just last year, he had been talking to David Letterman on the Late Show about his hopes to retire soon, "I'm going to still do my producing, my films, but I want......

Sure, there are TiVos. And VCRs (we think). But since Gothamist missed Chris Rock live, we might just have to stay home and watch Never Scared on HBO tomorrow night at 10PM. It follows a showing of Head of State, which we did see (on a plane). There's Bernie Mac, Stephanie March (aka ADA Alexandra Cabot of Law & Order SVU), and Robin Givens - what more could you want in a Saturday night?......

Eh. The Grammys are on tonight. People will be watching to see if Janet Jackson does appear and does apologize, and even though Gothamist wastes a lot of time watching awards show, we have another game plan: We will watch Fox's excellent Sunday night lineup of King of the Hill, Oliver Beene, The Simpsons, Bernie Mac, Malcolm in the Middle, and Arrested Development. Seriously, this is the best comedy lineup that any channel has. We'll......

Reasons why Gothamist is sad to have missed Chris Rock's comedy show (playing through early next week, but sold out, natch, at MSG), after reading Kelefa Sanneh's review : – "If you're black, America is like the uncle that paid your way through college but molested you." – On Roy Horn being mauled: "That tiger didn't go crazy. That tiger went tiger." – Krispy Kreme donuts' secret ingredient: crack Chris Rock and the Weitz Brothers'......

The Media Action Network for Asian Americans is up in arms against the creators of Charlie's Angels for missing out on the opportunity for giving Lucy Liu's character an Asian parent by casting funny man John Cleese. They have an opinion piece in the L.A. Times: Only Alex's father would appear in the sequel, and he would be played by British comedian John Cleese. Alex's Asian mother would be reduced to an image in......

Hearing that Fox Fired 'Bernie Mac' Creator-Producer Larry Wilmore, I was pretty shocked. Yes, it's not as popular as they would like it to be, but it's been on at 9PM on Wednesdays, where there's been The Bachelor/ette and The West Wing. I also feel like The Bernie Mac Show has been shuffled around the schedule, a lot, due to American Idol and stuff. I have a feeling they want to dumb down the show......

If you're an intense professional in a movie or sitcom, watch out. Because a relative will die, leaving to you care for their children (via some tragic incident). But at least comic antics will ensue. Last week, Kate Hudson agreed to star in a movie called Raising Helen, about a rising professional who suddenly inherits her sister's three children, when her sister dies. Today, it was announced that Lori Loughlin would star in a......
