Pencil This In

ART FAIR: The Fountain New York Independent Art Fair aims "to reflect the avant-garde in-your-face attitude of the Dada movement." Located a few blocks of the Armory show, it presents a ton of young Brooklyn based galleries. So go check out the works they have to showcase.

11am to 7pm, through the 26th // 660 12th Ave // Free

THEATER: Tearing your hair out over lousy subway service, Williamsburg’s trust-fund hipsters, or the frequency of Arcade Fire posts on Gothamist? Tonight’s your night to vent, at this month’s “Meltdowns!” story slam produced by The Moth. Here’s how it’s going to go down: Starting at 7:00, the names of everyone who wants to tell a story will be tossed in a hat. At 7:30 PM, ten names will be chosen at random and written up on the board. Each contestant will have 5 minutes to share his or her tale; after each story, the judges will give a score from 1-10. The storyteller with the highest score wins the title of MothSLAM Champion and… bragging rights! - John Del Signore

7pm sign up; 7:30 show // The Bitter End [147 Bleecker Street] // $6 at the door

2007_02_arts_bandb.jpgMUSIC: Greg Kurstin studied with Charles Mingus, and has a charming way of sliding that influence in to his band, The Bird and the Bee (pictured). Rounding out the two-piece is Inara George who has voice that can melt butter. The foundation of their sound may be a sun-kissed LA electronic beat, but it branches out to touch on many other sounds. They're self-described as "a futuristic 1960s American film set in Brazil", and that sounds pretty accurate to us. Listen at their MySpace.

7:30pm // Joe's Pub [425 Lafayette St] // $15

CLOTHING SWAP: Drunk shopping can be a dangerous venture, so we're guessing a clothing swap at a bar can also yield some interesting results. Head to the Thrift On! swap tonight and see what you can find. DJ Shakey will be on hand spinning some nice shopping tunes that are in no way reminiscent of the elevator music you're likely to hear in the department store.

9pm // Botanica Bar [47 E Houston St] // Free

Reminder: The Tibet House benefit is tonight!

I was wondering if it would be possible for Gothamist to post events earlier than the day of for some of these events. I would love to be able to go to a lot more of them, but I need more than four or five hours notice.
