Television Watching: Some Humor Among the Flakes

There is nothing like a little snow to make the local television stations go nuts. The madness really started yesterday evening with reporters sent out to find snow, special winter weather graphics and crawls with school closings along with other notes about the snowstorm on the bottom of the screen.
This morning the madness continued with most of the stations starting their morning newscasts an hour early at 4 a.m. However, we missed the one sure sign of a winter storm this time around due to cutbacks at WNBC - Joe Avellar (now with WCBS radio) being sent to some snow covered part of the northern suburbs to cover the snow.
Of course, this sort of weather provides opportunity for unexpected humor during the weather coverage.

The funniest moment of the storm coverage so far was last night on channel 2’s 11 p.m. newscast. Reporter Lou Young slipped and fell in the snow when reporting from Middletown in Orange County while trying to walk and talk at the same time. Being quite funny, WCBS replayed it later in the newscast and placed the video on their website.
This morning’s Good Day New York on Fox 5 yielded another comedy incident during a live shot from reporter Steve Keely from sister station WTXF. Keely, reporting from somewhere in Philadelphia, turned on a snow blower which hit the cameraman and camera square in the lens. We can only assume that given the cost of camera equipment and the obvious safety issues that this was unintentional. Then again, we don’t know if this is part of his normal shtick down there.
Finally there was an unintentional and unfortunate juxtaposition during Good Morning America on WABC. During a report on the whereabouts of terrorist leader Muqtada Al Sadr, the school closing report for the Islamic Leadership School appeared on the crawl at the bottom of the screen. This one was more funny uh-oh than funny ha-ha.

Homeland Security should be landing in the Bronx any second now.
fun roundup, nice work!
were we just so starved for snow that we pretended this was a big deal? come on, this was barely two-hour delay weather, why are there closed schools?
goddamit liz cho is gorgeous.
Last night was crazy: BLIZZARD OF 2007 title cards and segment intros, reporters on location, sans snow, being framed by animated graphics of snow falling.
Please!
breaking news: liz cho will you go out with me?
the news is gay.
Hands off. Liz Cho is mine.
To all the Cho groupies out there sadly she's married. And after the divorce is final I GOT DIBS!
I miss Liz on world news now, she was more loose and fun and she had a big fan club back then.
signed world news poker.
I agree - Liz Cho is incredible.
That is all.
Roger Clark is my personal fave.
Although I'd rather bed Mike Woods, I have to say that Liz Cho is indeed fine.
Anyway, what's the big hassel over this storm? The office we share space with let everyone out early "because it's getting real ugly out there!" Huh? Definitely not my favorite type of weather and the commute is a bitch but come on!
goddamit liz cho is gorgeous.
I'll second that.
Favorite school closing? Mazel Tots Nursery School.
FWIW, Steve Keely used to be the sarcasticly light-hearted piece reporter who used to fly in the newscopter on "Good Day Philadelphia". Suddenly, he was gone from the skys and put on the ground as a "serious" news reporter. He seems to be out of place doing straight news. Perhaps, it got to him.
The thing about Liz Cho is her news casting is dull as hell ! Sure she's fine as hell but she does the news without a soul ! I mean just watch her reading the news, Totally soul less .
Lol, "hr" Most of the news casters are gay ! The sportscaster from Channel 7 Marvel Scott is gay .
they are all gay Mike Woods Marvell Scott and i thought Maurice Dubois was gay also Chris Wraggle is a married gay man. John Elliot just a freak looking dude......lol
Hey Jay...Marvell Scott is far from gay. He is a buddy of mine and I will just plead the 5th on his game...but it is superior. He likes women...let us just leave it at that.
Dr. Marvell Scott of ABC 7 is not gay! He and his buddies pull more ass than they know what to do with! I should know, as his cousin was at one point a good friend of mine, and we often hung out with Marvell. Do not hate a man for his accomplishments, rather try to learn from and apply them to one's self...ok?
Also, you New York big mouths need to reconsider your ignorance as an attribute to being a New Yorker. The rest of the country looks at you guys as a liability to our reputation, not an asset. It is people like Dr. Scott that redeem the rest of you blue-collar, working-class morons.
interesting to hear marvell pulls so much ass. i've actually (thought to have) known him to be dating a friend of mine for a long time. perhaps, if he is "pulling more ass" as claimed above, his accomplishments run much further than we think.
not sure if those are the type of accomplishments i woudl be proud of?
maybe she should learn from him and apply his reasoning to see how much ass she can pull?
