Hey, Hey, Hey...It's Harry!

2007_02_sharrydog1.jpg

2007_02_sharrydog2.jpgThough we suspect he may have gotten some Jello pudding packs along the way, he isn't fat, and yesterday, Harry, the Dandie Dinmont Terrier, stole the show in the first day of competition at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

Harry, who is co-owned by Bill Cosby, yes that Bill Cosby, was the only Dandie Dinmont in the competition and finished first in the terrier group. Harry already has 57 championships in his career and he will be favored to win Best in Show tonight because terriers do very well at Westminster. Cosby was not at The Garden yesterday because he thinks it's bad luck! His daughter, however, was there and hinted that Bill may be there today because of the results.

The Times also gives us a hint as to why Harry wasn't challenged in the Dandie group:

There are several reasons why Harry was on his own. Dandies are not widely owned or shown. The owners of other champion Dandies might have avoided challenging Harry, who won 57 best-in-shows in 2006; Harry himself could not choose to avoid top rivals, the way a risk-averse boxer might avoid serious challenges to his title.
There are still some groups to be judged today (sporting, hounding, and herding) and then Harry, an Akita, a toy poodle and a standard poodle will face three other dogs for the top prize. The winner will be unveiled towards the end of tonight's broadcast on USA, which starts at 8 p.m.

And, if you want to do more than watch the show, Vegas is offering odds "for entertainment purposes only" on the show. We recommend taking the poodle with the points since you have to favor the underdog in these things.

If you missed the events yesterday and you want to catch up, there is video of all the breeds from the day on the kennel club's website.

Harry is really cute. At first, I thought he looked weird, but that video is soo sweet.

the best part about watching his video is his non-stop tail.

i'm going tonight!!!

A Norfolk is the only terrier for me! Go Sherlock!

They always pick the strangest looking dogs and cats at these shows for the winners...

that photo is fantastic--go harry!

Pity about the haircut. He's adorable anyway, though. Reminds me a lot of my late puppydog, but we're not sure what he was.
