Is everyone in Vermont on smack?
Let's forget the focus on drugs and rather direct our energies toward the fact that Trey is a Creative Genius unmatched by any other!
anyone got a transcript?
Whether you love or hate heroin, Trey is a rock god!
went to the 92nd St.Y. Amazing!
trey is chuck norris......dumbass
does anyone have or know of any reviews of the evening? i'm curious what he discussed and what the whole event was like
We all have problems. It doesnt take away from what him, and the other 3 guys gave us. Let's try and focus on the incredible music and good times they gave us. Possibly hope he can take somethin from this and give us back what we've all been missing so badly....PHISH
Hey is there some place to find out what was disscussed ? Any one so kind to share please, and yes lets hope he's done with it all, and come back to PHISH>!!
First of all, let me say that nobody was more into phish than me. For a while that was it for me, but i can honestly say that Trey has not been a creative genious in quite sometime - most likely directly linked back to the time when he and brad started chasing the dragon. People need to realize that everyone screaming for them to get back together just makes it worse for him, much in the same way that the droves of hangers on and a-hole posers ruined the scene and phish in the first place. What do you want ? A reunion tour filled with sloppy DWD>simple jams? Phish jumped the shark a while back, probably should have ended after Big Cypress and will NEVER be as good as they were in 92 and 93 when they WERE the best band on the planet. Asking Trey to live in the past and play tunes that are played out for most of us - imagine how played out they are to him!!-is selfish and will only lead to him further falling into the black Hole - I personally dont like his solo stuff, but fuck let him play it, stop yelling for phish tunes - and let it be - before he kills himself on brown...
trey's been an inspiration to many young musicians making there way in the music business... something about that jedi mindscape laced with cotton candy pcp at times makes me wet myself when i listen... but he cant and wont be what he was then... let him age like clapton... its over the way it was
Trey said he would be the happiest guy in the room if he found himself on stage with phish again. I thought it was strange because if he is sick of all the phish reunion rumors why is he fanning the fire? I think if they do get back together it has got to be for the music (new music) not the phans. New songs for a new phish era.
hang it up trey. iagree 92-95 were the best years phish are done!!!!!!!!
Even a train comes to a stop Trey. God knows I loved you and your boys from 1991 to 1993, but please. At least the fellas in the GD had enough sense to reivent themselves and keep it about the music.
Now that I write this..I realize, the fans gave less of a shit about Jerry's personal exploits and cared more about the music. The last Phish show that I went to had teenagers dropping E, oblivious to the music around them. Goddamn Phisheads...I love that attitude..."First of all, let me say that nobody was more into phish than me." Yep. You are the BIGGEST PHISH fan ever.
The most ungrateful bunch of whining bastard fans ever. They ruined the Dead scene too, by the way. All strung out on their skateboards with dreads and trust funds looking for free tickets. Good riddance.
You goddman Phish headas are all alike. You think you own Phish, like you have some personal stake. Its just a band. They were good, yeah, even fucking amazing some time (1991 to 1993), but, are now dead. Its over Johnny. Enjoy the tapes, go download every note Trey has ever farted out of his ass, and leave the dude alone. Wow. Even a train comes to a stop.
if phish were to get back together, i would not want to hear anything that they have played before. their history has cast a big shadow, and it would be so good to hear something that sounds nothing like phish. all four of the guys are incredibly talented musicians. they should not limit themselves to what they have already sounded like.
human nature is so predictable. phish was great even after 91-93, things just weren't the exact same. so people sit around and pine for the good ole days. part of the real beauty of phish was how dynamic they were throughout the life of "phish." hell, there were great shows post hiatus. if you are still sitting around waiting for phish to get back together, you need to move on. phish was a once in a lifetime deal. big up to the boys for what they did and let them continue through their lives and careers in peace.

Phish was the shit....the world just got too crazy around them. I know after big cypress i said "thats it it will never be this good again."I was right in a way...the last tours we for us and at least in 2003/04 i got it out of my system. There is more to life than sex, drugs, and rock and roll.
the glass is half empty...or is it half full? I'm actually glad to not be a slave to phish tour anymore..i have a real life now that i can't just put on hold like i used to. This whole bust thing actually makes me want to stay away from that scene more than ever. Obviously we are all human and we all make mistakes...but i'm in no rush to put myself in a room with trey...even if he is playing the best music on earth. Heroin makes us all look bad. It was what killed the dead scene...and it took hold of the phish scene...people nodding out at shows, drooling all over themselves...we've all been next to that guy! I mean look at the list of rock stars that went to that great gig because of heroin...jerry garcia, jannis joplin, shannon hoon, john belushi, layne stanley, lead singer of mother love bone..jimi hendrix?...jim morrison?...kurt cobain...
I understand it must be shit..but you gotta have a death wish to ride that horse. Maybe all this will get trey back to this planet...but we all know he is not of this earth. I mean i thought phish broke up because of this BS? I'm over it..wasn't that the point of not touring anymore?
We can only make ourselves better...to each his own.
The best phish 91-93???? You people obviousy are waaaaay to old to appreciate what they did 96 and beyond. I am so tired of hearing that they were at there best so early. listen to the tapes OG fans they were hardly more than boring in the early 90s. wow I thought I was living in the past--you dudes are old
viva trey
I think everyone needs to calm down and just take a minuet and think about this outside of the Phish Phandom...Trey is a very unique musician but also a cool dude. We all screw up that is the essence of life, screwing up for if we never screwed up we would never learn anything. Lets all just try and help trey out and let him do his thing. A reunion tour would be fun for him as well as us; just getting out there and getting to play music is what its all about. Forget the negativity for it is unneccessary..
Phish rocked for a loooong time. Obviously people had different ideas about how good they were or compeling the music was each time they reinvented themselves. I remember sorry motherfuckers getting bent out of shape over billy breathes. It was still art. It was still good. It was different. The last few rounds of music they produced flat out sucked. There is not much debate over that. I was at cypress....we all liked the coked out trey much better than the H dog trey. It is what it is. His creativity was introverted. Because heroin makes you self-centered. It is not much more complicated than that. The addiction causes you to see nothing but your needs...and the best way to fill those needs. Musically he had needs and he filled them. First with shitty self absorbed jams, and then next with shitty pussy music. Feeling sorry for yourself music. Let the man clean up...let him mourn for what he has put himself through. Let him come back with vigor, let the boys come around him, and then stand back while they blow the fuck up. Phish will be back. No monkeys no drugs, and hopefully no pathetic, self centered jerk off fans who suck the positive vibe out of everyone around them. I remember someone telling me in 99 when I asked them why they dont go to the shows with me they said that phish kids suck....you know what....they did. So kids grow up, be nice to the news guys that come along, don't shit all over the newbies like we did, include them into the positive culture or they will spin their own brand of negativity in a counter culture within the group that will suck it dry again. And pleeeease for the love of all that is good, shut the fuck about about 91 92 93 and 94, I was there too and between you and me NO ONE GIVES A FUCK.
attn james - if your shut the fuck up is directed at me for pointing out that no reincarnation of phish could possibly be as good as they were in 92 or 93 than - right back at you douche - I certainly would never say that the only time phish rocked was during those years. Hell no - there were sick sick sick shows right up til the very end. I personally thought there were even some great parts of Coventry -- besides that UNFORGIVABLE waste of time Dickie Scotland jam - and no lie I think round room is a great disc minus one or two songs. Im not one who says only the early shit was good - but i think the worst possible thing to do would be to get back together too soon and play the same unrehearsed renditions of the same ol stuff. The best thing about phish to me was the tightness and complexity - they went weeks and months in 93 without missing a note - literally huge portions of tours playing ridiculously complex stuff flawlessly. The delay loop hazy jamming of later years was to me not as interesting - still loved it though. All i was suggesting was that if and when a reunion does happen - it should be something different and new, not an attempt to capture past glory by ripping through the 10,000th Suzy Greenburg.
It is a shame that you took that random comment as something that was directed to you personally. In fact you were not even the intended recepient. The recepients are shamefully holding their heads low, refusing to comment, and for good reasons....they know I hit the nail on the head. You man.....you're good people. sorry you misunderstood me.
J
It's just music! I love music...totally and completely love music. I'm a career musician, for heaven's sake. I also totally and completely love Phish. I happen to like 1994, but you know, 96 was cool. So was 97 and 2003 and 93. Whatever! Like it all. Hate it all. Piss, moan. Do what you have to do. As Duke Ellington said, "If it sounds good, it is good." That's all. It's just music. As for Trey and his drugs...it's in his hands now.
hopefully this will make people forget about SHINE
nice!
I second that. Forget the heroin. The real crime was Shine and thankfully its almost forgotten.
I relistened to two tracks from that album just to remember how awful it was and is. In fact, I'm convinced that teenage girls could use it to induce vomit. Trey Anastasio.......Shine, by ipecac records.
well the whole time i was on tour from 95 through summer of 97 i was on pain meds but i never ran into anyone else that was on them or rathur never heard anyone talk about them now im paying for the crime too personally not in the courts but at home and at heart. I FELL YOU TREY WE LOVE YOU DUDE. KEEP ON ROCKIN!
so much bitterness here. not good. I'm just grateful to have been alive to hear them play.
why the complaining about the music? it doesn't matter whether it was 92,93,94 or any other year.
what matters is that they exsisted, and for most of us chatting, we had a chance in a lifetime to experience Phish, even if the first show was in the later years.
For us who saw some of the early 90s shows, who are we to say that those whose first show was in the late 90s and 00s was not as good for them as it was for us. we could argue that what we saw was better, but what is the point? despite the music, is it not possible that the experience was just as great for those whose first show was in the later years?
I would love to see Phish again, and would welcome them "urinating" in my ears anytime.
Thank you Phish.
phish is the lamest!
Phish is a dream come true! ! . . .and dreams are forever! !
