Coming Soon: Getting Action with Your NYC Condom

2007_01_condom.jpgTaking a ride on the N train will have a whole new meaning with Mayor Mike’s recent plans to distribute “NYC” brand condoms that are packaged to resemble different subway lines. As the Post reports, this new initiative will distribute millions of these condoms throughout the city and bring New Yorkers one step closer to the stark reality that NYC has the highest rate of AIDS/HIV in the nation.

While existing resources and organizations are widely available and networked throughout the city, this is the most proactive and market-savvy approach taken by the city to date, especially compared to previous efforts (.PDF file). One million condoms might not be enough in this big city, but just remember, if you’re going to get yours, then get yours.

I can just see it now:
"Hey baby, want to go for a ride on my F train!"
"F train pulling in now!"

or the tongue in cheek, "Baby, I'm sorry the F train always takes forever to come!"

It doesn't really say where they will be distributed. If we were really, truly "Fun City," (as per The Post) they would be distributed automatically w/your Metro Card w/the slogan
"Come on and Take a Free Ride."
Heh heh.

I like how the graphic is pointing out the G-spot.

Everyone knows if you want to take a long, slow train ride, the G is it!

And you know what they are after if they pull out a "shuttle".

I don't think anyone wants to rock the G-train condoms. Shorter than the average and only works some of the time.

According to the health website, more than 100,000 New Yorkers have HIV/AIDS. That means more than 1% of the population has the disease. That's a bit alarming.

This would never work in Chicago. Everyone would expect the CTA-brand condoms to break at least twice a week.

best. idea. ever.

My take was funnier.

Second Ave. Sagas

ya i think 1 in every 5 gurls have an std... that is alarming trend...

Great idea, though this sentence made my inner Strunk and White go for the shotgun:

"As the Post reports, this new initiative will distribute millions of these condoms throughout the city and bring New Yorkers one step closer to the stark reality that NYC has the highest rate of AIDS/HIV in the nation."

....closer to the reality of...what? No no, condoms help PREVENT the high rate of...How about raise awareness? Maybe my hangover is just talking but Jesus Buddha and Allah Gothamist have a once over when you post.

That being said, gives a whole new meaning to being On the 6, doesn't it J-Lo?
