Extra, Extra

  1. Oh no. Someone jumped in front of the F train at West 4th Street. Expect delays as service has been rerouted - from the MTA: Due to a Police investigation at the West 4th Street-Washington Square Station, the Brooklyn bound F train is running express from the 34th Street-Herald Square Station to the West 4th Street-Washington Square Station. The V train is running on the E line from the 5th Avenue-53rd Street Station to the World Trade Center Station at this time.
  2. Today on the Gothamist Newsmap: a hazmat condition at the Daily News Building, an all-hands fire at the Drake Hotel, and an armed robbery in Harlem.
  3. Kelly made a fun video documenting Santarchy on Saturday.
  4. Kofi Annan's brother has been living in a below-market rate apartment on Roosevelt Island for ten years-- an apartment he inherited from his brother. Is that legal?
  5. Vincent Garcia has lived for 20 years in a "tattered tan trailer in a parking lot on Stillwell Avenue near the Boardwalk" in Coney Island. Thor Equities just sent him an eviction letter.
  6. The Bloomberg is planning on opening a new program to fight poverty: "the Center for Economic Opportunity, would administer a $100 million fund to support experimental programs, like giving cash rewards to encourage poor people to stay in school or receive preventive medical care, or matching their monthly bank deposits to foster greater savings."
  7. Even though a judge ruled that the NYPD violated the city constitution when it locked up political protesters over night in 2001, the arrested demonstrators probably aren't going to get any cash. Still undecided: the RNC 2004 arrest cases.
  8. Sad epilogue to a disgusting story: "a teenager whose 4- month-old baby drowned in a bucket of vomit and cleaning solution while the young mom was passed out drunk was sentenced to five years' probation yesterday."
  9. The ultra-orthodox Jews that form the "the Neturei Karta align themselves with the Palestinian cause — holding frequent counter-protests at Israel Day parades, and meeting with leaders of the Palestinian Authority." Last week, they attended a Holocaust Denial Conference in Iran.
  10. Charlie Rangel loves to joke: he says he's endorsing a Guiliani-Kerik ticket for president in 2008.
  11. Light and Oil on Water by mdpNY.

WTF????????????????????

re: bucket-baby death.
instead of 5 years probation, that piece of trash mother should be sterilized. as should all women who commit crimes against their children. and i say this as a woman.

Again I had to have an extra longer commute thanks to the F train screwing up. All I want is to come home to relax instead I have to deal with the MTA wasting my time

damnitttt!!!!!

bummer that evil thor equities is kicking that dude out.. now he has to pay rent like the rest of us. ho hum.

To wastedmytime-

If you jump or fall in front of a train today then you won't have to worry about any more delays ever again. Why don't you do it at Coney Island so they can throw your worthless corpse right in the ocean.

um, the mother was 18 and passed out drunk. hello, 2-infractions-in-1? probation? *mad*

To gary:

Perhaps the the F train jumper should have done it at Coney Island themselves to save other people the trouble. After all, suicide is a selfish act.
