Noteworthy TV This Week

A look at some noteworthy programs this week:
Color BarsIdentity (WNBC 4 Monday, 9:00 p.m., Tuesday-Friday 8:00 p.m.) Penn Jillette of Penn and Teller hosts this 21st century remix of What's My Line. Yet another of NBC-Universal's NBC 2.0 budget saving measures, which focus on cheap bad programming like this. Ten years ago NBC was promoting the quality shows they had; now it is this retread schlock. NBC would do better by putting MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann on at 8.

American Experience Mary Pickford (WNET 13, Monday 9:00 p.m.) Silent film actress Mary Pickford was a superstar of her time and savvy producer and businesswoman, but most of her movies were silent, so she is forgotten. PBS’ American Experience takes a look at America’s Sweetheart, who was in fact Canadian.

Blueprint New York: Central Park (WNYE 25, Monday 10:00 p.m.) This NYCTV series takes a look at the history and present of Central Park.

Al Roker Investigates: Innocence for Sale (CourtTV, Monday 11:00 p.m.) Al Roker, yes that Al Roker, looks into the issue of teenage prostitution.

A Chanukah Celebration (WLIW 21, Tuesday, 8:00 p.m.) Actress Fran Drescher hosts this Chanukah special featuring musical performances, stories, decorating tips and of course recipes.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (WCBS 2, Thursday, 8:00 p.m.) If you missed it a few weeks ago, catch the repeat of the classic stop motion animated special which CBS claims is "the longest-running holiday special in television history."

Picturing Mary (WLIW 21, Thursday, 8:00 p.m.) A look at artwork inspired by the mother of Jesus over two thousand years.

Great Performances Broadway's Lost Treasures II (WNJN 50, Thursday, 10:00 p.m.) The second in a series of performances from Tony Awards telecasts. One major highlight is Jerry Orbach as Billy Flynn doing a number from the original production of "Chicago".

The Sound of Music (WABC 7, Saturday, 8:00 p.m.) The hills are alive with the sound of music. . . Sing along at home or play the drinking game while you watch this classic Rodgers and Hammerstein movie.
