THEATER: Dance-theatre maverick Pina Bausch returns to the Brooklyn Academy of Music with Nefés, which is described as an ode to Istanbul, 'the city of water'. Originally conceived in 2002, Nefés (Turkish for "breath") “quickly became a life-affirming response to Istanbul's bouts with political upheaval. But rather than echoing the violence, Bausch invests her signature humor and emotional pathos with an acute sense of calm. Set to an eclectic score featuring Turkish songs, tangos from Astor Piazzolla, and classical guitar, Nefés also features massive video screens with which the performers interact.” - John Del Signore

MUSIC: You know Dan Finnerty, even if you don't think you do. He's the guy who sang "Total Eclipse of the Heart" in Old School [clip above] and "Feel Like Making Love" in the remake of Starsky and Hutch. His journey may have started in a karaoke bar, but it's brought him to the big screen...and now to BB Kings! Come see The Dan Band tonight, then maybe hit up a karaoke bar yourself. You want more don't you? Check out this clip of The Dan Band.

EVENT: Looks like Santa's workshop will be in Brooklyn this weekend, as the Build-a-kid-a-bike charity day for underprivileged children comes to town. Head over there to watch "hairy bike shop trolls" (sort of like elves) build bikes for kids, and make an appointment to learn how to build your own. There will also be hot chocolate to warm ya up!
Saturday // 12 noon // NYC Bikes Warehouse [43 Hall St, Brooklyn] // Free
THEATER: The Phoenix Theatre Ensemble opens an Ionesco double bill tonight. The Lesson is about a professor’s attempts to teach a non-existent language to a bewildered but eager pupil; The Painting is Ionesco’s pure theatre of “live antagonism, dynamic conflict, and motiveless clash of opposing wills”, wherein a wealthy patron and a starving artist’s linguistic slapstick skewers both the bourgeoisie and the art world. - John Del Signore
Saturday // 2pm & 8pm // Connelly Theater [220 East 4th Street] // Tickets cost $20
MUSIC: Sunday night Rahim, Bound Stems, Other Passengers and Jupiter Sunrise take the Northsix stage. Great lineup! Okay, we don't know Jupiter Sunrise, but the other three are pretty good. Rahim was our Band of the Week this week, and Bound Stems might as well be our Band of Eternity, they are that good, and have major staying power in this lil game of rock n' roll.
Listen: Western Biographic.mp3 - Bound Stems
8pm // Northsix [66 North 6th St, Williamsburg] // $10
And don't forget to watch Rudolph tonight!
