While You Were Out

Many of us were out of town for Thanksgiving and might have been too busy stuffing ourselves to keep up on some of the recent restaurant openings. Here's some of the food news you might have missed while you were gnawing on that drumstick:

- Kampuchea Noodle Bar
Ratha Chau, formerly of Fleur de Sel, brings us a noodle bar where you can slurp alongside your fellow diners at communal tables. The menu focuses on Southern Cambodian cuisine and even includes a build-your-own Pho. 78-84 Rivington St., corner of Allen St., 212-529-3901.

- Against the Grain
The folks at Grape and Grain have opened a beer bar next door to their East Village location. It features an international beer menu and beer-related bar snacks, such as peel and eat shrimp or cockles steamed in the brew. Urban Daddy tells us that they'll be offering free oyster shooters at midnight. Sounds like a good reason to raise a glass. 620 E. 6th St (between Aves B and C), 212-358-7065

- Pera
Although it bills itself at a Mediterranean Bistro, Pera leans heavily towards Turkish. Sezai Celikbas of the Kosebasi restaurant in Istanbul, and chef Jason Avery, formerly of the Regent Wall Street, created the menu, which offers a variety of mezes including a "shish trio" of mini—kebabs of lamb, harissa shrimp, and soujouk, and pidettes (oven-baked, open-faced calzones of sorts) with ground, seasoned lamb or fire-roasted eggplant, in addition to a range of entrees, including a chef's tasting menu of many of them for $42. 303 Madison Avenue, near 41st Street, 212-878-6301.

- Hurapan (pictured above)
Chefs Taweewat Hurapan, the former executive chef of Rain, and his son, Dejthana "Danny" Hurapan, formerly at Hue and Rain, bring Thai with a twist to the Vest Village. In addition to their contemporary Thai-focused Asian dishes, they're offering a menu of dishes inspired by the street food of Thailand's Floating Markets. They haven't yet gotten their liquor license, so it's BYOB for now. 29 Seventh Avenue South, bet. Bedford & Morton Sts., 212-727-2678.
