Hot Sake

2006_03_food_Hot Sake2.jpg- Augieland has a food pornrific post on the late night scene at Momofuku Ssäm Bar. Please note the disclaimer in the second paragraph – it was his birthday and he had been well served.

- As expected, Eater is all over the Ye Waverly Inn rebirth, surely more to come.

- Chinese food and wine? Mr. Asimov thinks some investigation or re-visitation of the topic is in order. If it, as it does for him, involves a trip to the very underrated and often unmentioned Phoenix Garden in midtown put us down for the table.

- This week in BLT Burger news: Jennifer Leuzzi at Snack reports back that her specimen was 100% meaty deliciousness. Based on our one visit we will concur. It should be noted that these folks are trying very hard to get it right under the crush of the crowds, which apparently caused the restaurant to shut down Friday afternoon for a bit so they could reload the mise-en-place. More evidence of thoughtful service? During our visit, they were intentionally leaving tables open to keep food moving to customers at a normal interval, additionally when our BLT Burger came out a bit overcooked they rushed out a new perfect one AND a fresh hot basket of fries without prompting. As much as we liked our BLT Burger selection it seems the singly adorned Classic may be the way to go, as two patties threw it out of balance.

- Don’t know where The Feisty Foodie came from, but give her points for spunk. First she jumped in early on the Sliceny “The Definitive Top 10 List” smackdown a few weeks back (which incidentally deserves another look in the comments as Josh Ozersky has now handicapped East Village pizza), then Grub Street subsequently links to her piece on her first ever lobster roll where after consuming the whole thing without putting it down she ponders the possibility of an addictive ingredient (?) and the definition of pralines, and now Yvonne has dived head first, spurred by a special Fresh Direct sale pricing, into tackling short ribs for the first time. Keep it up.

- Staying in the realm of smackdowns, the latest diatribe from Gordon Ramsay less than a week out from the opening of his eponymous NYC restaurant. Seems this bloke has no respect for his peers, and while that is no real surprise, it makes for a fun wheels-coming-off-the-train read.

Got some Hot Sake for us ? Send it our way, credit will be given......or not if you prefer.

yay, go yvonne!

yay, go yvo!

Anyone got the odds on how long it willtake that old queen, Gordon Ramsay, to run back home to England, bitching about how we New Yorkers "didn't have the taste to appreciate him"? I give him 18 months, tops.

Thanks, but if you have any questions about where I came from, just ask :)

wait, I checked this before work, and now that I'm at work I can't find the link or blurb about NYC delivery service. I was just talking about it the other day and wanted to read it! Does anyone have it?
