Scaffolding Collapse on Prince and Lafayette
Whoa-- that storm last night must have been worse than we thought: the scaffolding that wrapped 270 Lafayette completely flipped over! Verbose Coma, our favorite SoHo correspondents, were on the scene, and snapped a few pictures-- looks like a bunch of cars got smushed:

Update: Curbed also got a good picture of the damage-- apparently the entire scaffolding was wrapped in a giant ad for Helio, which is a cellphone company of some sort. Do they get their money back if their sign explodes?

Most likely the weight of the illegal ad on it contributed to its fall.
Damn and to think that I could have just bloodied my head a bit and lay next to the pavement and could have had a ten million dollar lawsuit. Curses! And the ad is not really illegal. I mean it's illegal, but the city fines the building and the advertisers just pay the fine. simple.
oy! helio/d.o.t./building owner, get that thing outta the bike lane!
that last pic is great. who took it? curbed? anyone know of any cyclists injured? probably none due to the weather, BUT there will be injuries if the lane is not cleared.
According to a resident of the building, the collapse occured around 7am Saturday morning. There were, thankfully, no injuries. Imagine if this had happened during the middle of the day?!?!
