Boy George, Sweeper Chameleon

2006_08_boygeorge.jpg

Finally: Boy George has reported for his community service (after he falsely reported a robbery in his apartment) - sweeping streets in Chinatown and Little Italy. However, the paparazzi likes a celebrity in an orange Department of Sanitation vest, so they have followed him around, leaving him a bity crazy:

As he went about his duties, the singer was swarmed by reporters and photographers while he stood on the median of a Lower East Side Street. He used his broom to sweep dust and leaves into the lens of a video camera.

"You think you're better than me?'' he yelled. "Go home. Let me do my community service.''

"This is supposed to be making me humble. Let me do this,'' he said. "I just want to do my job.''

Good for him! We hopes he enjoy communing with New York City streets. But if you happen to see Boy George cleaning the streets (don't bother him, or else you might need to go to an opthamologist to remove dust from your eyes), email us the dish and photos at photos(at)gothamist(dot)com.

And did Boy George realize that some youths cleaned the streets yesterday, as part of Chinatown beautification?

Boy George looks very boho-chic in this get-up. Can't wait to see what he wears tomorrow.

i heard on the news that they were going to have him do indoor work because of the media circus around his community service.

Tobyjoe wants to get a picture of him cleaning up in front of The Culture Club.

Bah da bum.

Wow, a media circus? Who would have expected it?

One of the more bizzare aspects of the Boy George-Papparazzi love fest this AM was the fact that the packs of photographers ignored the illegally parked NYPD "unmarked vehicles" which are parked on the sidewalk outside of an NYPD (Organized Crime Control Bureau?) facility 100 feet away. Mayor Bloomberg's order to stop llegal parking of city vehicles was either never really uttered or said so quietly that NYPD has not yet heard.
