Pencil This In

THEATER: One saving grace of working in midtown is that there's plenty to see on a lunchtime or late afternoon stroll, if you don't get stampeded by the crowds. And one of the best things to see, which is also away from the worst of the congested sidewalks, are Chashama's installations of window performance art. This week and next, in the 9th Oasis festival, you can catch 20-minute works from a brilliant range of over 40 choreographers chosen by Debbie Stamos and Marc Dale; with such a prime opportunity both to play the voyeur and see the next generation of artists while you're at it, maybe you should head to midtown one day even if you don't work there. - Mallory Jensen

All Week 12-1:30 and 5:30-7pm // Chashama [217 E. 42nd St] // Free

COMEDY: It's summer. It's Tuesday. That means "Summer Tuesdays" is at Rififi tonight. According to their slogan, they provide "hot comedy that keeps you cool!" So leave your portable fan at home, and put down the water, host Christian Finnegan will cool you down and cure your summertime blues.

8pm // Rififi [332 E. 11th St] // Free, one drink minimum

ART: Artists Space is having their Salad Days reception tonight. A salad potluck party will bring you together with the artists and curators, so bring your favorite green dish!

6 to 8pm // Artists Space [38 Green St, 2nd Floor] // Free

EVENT: If you like to "eat ham products, drink alcoholic beverages, dress up as pirate, participate in a fashion show" then do we have the event for you! Hamstravaganza! If you can tell a raunchy seamen joke even better, as there will be a bad-pirate-joke-competition. The Hazzards will provide additional entertainment, as if more is needed.

7pm // The Frying Pan [West 23rd St and the Hudson River] // Free

And if you're in the mood for music, don't forget our Movable Hype show is tonight!
