Wednesday Early Edition: Food News

chairmanchow060501_2_198.jpgBruni no-stars Mr. Chow Tribeca. Calls most of the food "mediocre," and says, "Once you've visited Mr. Chow Tribeca, you will appreciate your favorite neighborhood Chinese takeout place like never before."

Adam Platt wasn't much impressed, either. And after last week's misstep, the Eater oddsmakers are back on track and call it right.

Also in the Times, Peter Meehan goes for the roasted half-pig at Daisy May's BBQ U.S.A., says "If you prefer not to see your food's face, you might want to choose the shoulder or the rack of lamb." Nonetheless, he enjoys the meat, roasted for eight hours in the restaurant's pit. You have to order two days in advance and pick the meat off the bones with your fingers (for which they give you latex gloves). We're intrigued.

Braden Keil covers high-end restaurants that failed health inspections this spring, including Bouley, Fred's at Barneys, Orsay, Sylvia's, and Sushi Hana (both East and West Side branches). There are mice, unsanitary workers, improper plumbing... eek! Gothamist wants to know these things, and yet we kind of don't.
