Madison Square Park, Sans Shake Shack...Heavenly

2006_06_shackless.jpg

Based on all the reader responses on our last Shake Shack post, we figure that the image that Adam over at A Hamburger Today found might please some of you. Adam writes:

I was just on Windows Live Local, Microsoft's answer to Google Earth, and typed in "Madison Square Park" to see if there'd be a satellite image of the line at Shake Shack.
There's no line in the photo because THERE'S NO SHAKE SHACK. Click on the image above for a bigger version.
Seems like Microsoft needs to update their shit because we all know that SHAKE SHACK IS THE BIGGEST THING TO HAPPEN TO BURGERS EVER!!!

Also, for the burger and beach lovers out there, don't forget about the Gothamist-A Hamburger Today QBQ-BBQ this weekend at Water Taxi Beach. Tickets are still available at either $9 for two burgers or $16 for four. Should be a tasty time.

Urggh!! More Gothamist Shake Sucks coverage?! That's it, McD is declaring war on the Shack and offering premium Kobe beef hamburgers!

this blog should be called ShakeShackist

Is Shake Shack paying you guys for the PR?

Shake Shack... shark.
Shark... Shake Shack.

Start jumping... and winner gets Tien.

You know, the Shake Shack isn't all that great. First of all, it is in Madison Square Park or what I like to call it "Rat Park." There are so many rats in that park that they think they are squirrels. Secondly, the burgers are kind of shitty. Thin little patty, small bun. The burgers at White Castle are bigger than Shake Shack's. And waiting 45 minutes for a tiny burger that costs 6 bucks isn't worth it.

you guys need to go to SSA - shake shack anonymous

NOW!

you **really** have a problem. its one thing to obsess about something, but to talk about it in public endlessly... aaargh!!!

Everyone knows MSN maps suck. They were still showing the twin towers in 2003. Don't go there.

im pretty sure google maps doesn't show the shack either.

Google's satellite image may show the Shack but the entire park is mostly obscured by trees.

Just kidding Tien, you know we love ya.

the a9 maps has it...but thats only because amazon drove around and took pics of streets last summer

I don't make it a point of using MSN maps regularly. In fact, I'd never used it before today, but a coworker was using it and remarking that the resolution was fairly high. I gave it a try, surprised it worked on a Mac, and then decided to look up some local pizza and burger landmarks.

Well, I finally ate there today after all the mentions here. The line was short cause it was early.

Damn good burger and fries, but by the time I left the line had about 70 people on it. Not that good.

ugh. enough already with this shack.

I went on a very bad date at the Shake Shack, the first time I've been there, so it's been ruined for me. Tell me, should I brave the hour long line and horrible memories and give the Shack a second chance?

Stop giving the Shake Shack hand jobs lubricated with frenc fry grease!

Lay off this overhyped shit and find something new to write about. It's good, but it's not that good. Not worth waiting an hour for, standing up and surrounded by self-important overambitious people who spend way too much on clothes and say insipid things on cell phones while you think about how hungry you are. It's overpriced too. There are a lot of other burger places (and food establishments) in this city. Stop obsessing over this one. Then again, what am I saying...Gothamist's M.O. is to obsess over stupid things that are way trendy and overhyped. There is nothing original or daring about Gothamist. If I didn't have 6 hours of down time a day at work, I would never go near the site.

It's amazing that you are all so upset when they prefaced it by mentioning all the whiners from their last. They definately did it on purpose just to piss you babies off.

They should change the name to Fag Shack cause only homos eat at shake shack! They love the meat.

Tien, the viral campaign was supposed to end in May. Why are you still doing this? We are not going to pay for additional weeks into June. Please advise.

Danny

Listen to all you hater vegans! I tried SS because of Gothamists enthusiasm, and gotta say it's one of the better burgers in Manhattan. Certainly beats fast food. Really the best place in town is Big Nick's at 77th & Broadway. Fourteen page menu, surly waitresses, and outside dining. Delux at 113th & Broad has a pretty good burger as well.

As much as I like Tien, enough wiht the damn Shake Shack coverage! You guys need help! And apparently you must be very fat from eating there constantly.

I agree. It isn't worth the wait. Joe's Best in Flushing (or OG Bronx) is quite good and Donovan's pub (Woodside and Bayside) rule NY.
