Has the World Gone Mad?
Rachael Ray has been named as one of this year's Time Magazine's Time 100: People Who Shape Our World. Her profile in Time is written by none other than Mario Batali. Apparently he and his kids had dinner at her house ("My boys went wild for the veal, meatball and pasta stoup, as she calls it...")
We're a little confused here. Or maybe Mario wants some love from Oprah, as Harpo is working with Ray in a big way.
Our post wondering if Ray was really more the Lady Emeril.

Well, Tom Cruise wrote the entry for JJ Abrams (Full. Of. Hyperbole.), so take the list any way you want.
I guess we need no further evidence that Time magazine has jumped the shark.
I think what Mario wants is a little lovin' from Rachael Ray. Knowing what Mario is like, he'd probably love to see the 30-Minute Meal girl riding the Big Red Man.
Pass the EVOO... and the Tums...
Time magazine is trying to attract readers under 40 is my guess.
Though, and go ahead and mock me for saying it, I like watching Ray's 30 minute meals. Are they really 30 minutes? No way in hell...unless you have a staff to do all the prep work for you. Still, I have gotten some good tips for quick cooking.
RR is way too perky (that's the polite way to put it) for my taste, but if she's actually getting people out of the McD's drive-thru and into the kitchen then more power to her.
In other news, She single handedly brought back bodysuit sales.
Forget about Time magazine, please. It's rubbish.
RR is all about personality. She's very charming. I watch here travel program. She visits interesting citys and spends just $40 a day on food.
yeah, that travel program is just 'fascinating'....how to go to dinner and take up a table eating the cheapest soup, the cheapest entree, and a GLASS OF WATER. And a tiny tip. That's a fun way to travel =p No thanks. I'm guessing he's trying to date her, that's all.
Nehna, if I owned a restaurant or waited tables, I wouldn't want RR taking up a table either. And her tips are not generous.
But I still enjoy her program for all its faults.
I Like RR, because her recipes are actually GOOD. I mean, you know that food professionals have ways of cooking well for themselves quickly and it's that stuff that she shares. No one else is really doing this--she deserves to be famous on the merits of the food alone. (Okay she's super peachy-keen too...)
i was annoyed by RR's perkiness at first, but after a while, i was kind of charmed. also, she makes cooking accessible and completely non-intimidating which is a relief after all the cooks that expect you to have specialty ingredients and equipment (and basically think you're gonna spend all day) just to turn out a really good dinner.
Wait, Mario's not gay? Then what's up with the odd guy who pops up on his show? Thought it was his "special friend"...
I don't think restaurants mind the lousy tips and Ray taking up a table because it gets their (likely tourist-targeted) restaurant on television.
Okay-first my wife and I loved RR.
Then we got sick of her perkiness and catch phrases.
Then we started watching again and like her.
We now respect her because a friend went to a booksigning at B&N a few months back with his wife and kids. It started around 7 or 7:30PM after dark. She came out of a cab greeted the line, went inside and took her seat. She immediately told the line handlers to move all the people with kids to the front of the line so the kids wouldn't get upset, anxious or too tired waiting. I think she really deserves a lot of respect for such consideration. It was her doing-not an agent, manager or B&N manager.
To the "boob job" comment, I suggest you take a look at the FHM photo shoot she did a few years back--I think you'll change your tune...although she is no Giana DiLaurentis (rowwwww) or Lidia (mmmmm--okay just kidding)...
Mario Batali's general reputation in the foodie world is he would bone anything with a pulse. A man of "vast appetites" as it were. A lot of hostesses and waitresses have quit his restaurants when they've refused his special salami.
Still, can't beat the quail ravioli at Babbo...
i HATE her terrible tipping--really, it is WRONG. that said, hubby and i watch her travel show on occasion if she is somewhere interesting and her cheeryness is grating but also a little appealing in an upstate rube sort of way. I can't sit through 30 minute meals.
I prefer daisy cooks, jacques pepin's good food my way and good eats.
Rachael Ray's food is TERRIBLE for you...try some nutritious food for your family people, please!
