Joi Ito, A Powerful Woman in Blogging?

2005_11_joiito.jpg

2005_11_joiitopic.jpgBlog lists are awesome! Someone emailed us about being #3 on a list of the 10 Most Powerful Women in Blogging from Jack of All Blogs, which was super-flattering but it was clearly a biased list (apparently the writer has partied with our awesome Bostonist and Miamist editors). Anyway, Ana Marie Cox, check; Heather Armstrong, check...but then at number 8, there's...Joi Ito? But, isn't he a guy, just one with a girly name? Damn you, confounding, inscrutable Asian cultures!

In other words, this list is the greatest goof of all time - yowza.

"Jen Chung of the Gothamist Empire"?
Nice Description!

Congrats, I think this is a good list to be on.

Maybe another year or so, Jen will make it to the top of the list. She's got my vote! Good work.

Easy solution for Joi. Just change the spelling and pronunciation of his name a tiny bit. Joey Ito works fine. Of course, some people might still have a problem identifying the gender, thanks to Joey Heatherton.

Ha! This is funny. I used to spell it Joey, but it's actually short for "Joichi". Someone spelled it "Joi" once and it switched. The problem is, if I spell it Joey, some people extend it to "Joseph"... which is wrong.

So Jen, you are a guy from Idaho, right?
;)

Well, my parents gave me what I like to call the no-brainer of names. There were three Jennifers in my 20-kid 4th grade class - how's that for individuality? As insane as it is, maybe there is something in naming your kid Apple or Moxie Crimefighter.

And Joi, I hear you.
