Only In New York Events: Dumpster Diving & Watergun Fighting

Tomorrow night, the same night all the recycling and garbage goes out, YMMV Radio hosts a Dumpster Dive and Upper East Side Scavenger Hunt. Gothamist won't lie, we've been dumpster diving before...and it wasn't at a not-for-profit organized event either.

So if you want to go, meet under the old movie-theater awning (now a Duane Reade) at 251 East 86th Street, between 2nd and 3rd Avenues, Manhattan at 8pm. The event is free and you can find more details here.

2005_07_artswatergun.jpgComing up next Thursday (the 21st) is the deadline to sign up for StreetWars, a round-robin, all city, 24/7 water-gun assassination tournament. The soaking begins July 25th. There are more details at the site, which also informs us that upon start of game you'll receive:

A picture of your intended target(s) The home address of your intended target(s) The work address of your intended target(s) The name of your intended target(s) Contact information of your intended target(s)

That sort of freaks us out, but if you sign up and see us walking around in the heat sweating - feel free to shoot some water our way.

killer! that shit is so highschool. not that i wouldn't do it.

OMG. Tien is right. StreetWars looks like the most awesomely juvenile thing ever. It's finally my chance to be like Kato from The Pink Panther and hide in someone's bushes for 3 hours with a watergun waiting for them to come home. COUNT ME IN.

I highly recommend StreetWars, if only to savor the stress of your former coplayers after your demise. My friend and I were just discussing how she was killed during a walk of shame outside her home (5am)...with a spray mister!! She was so impressed, she invited her killer up for breakfast. There were also stories of elaborate disguises, and I believe one even posed as a client.

However, I believe the deadline is NEXT Thursday?

it is next thursday, thanks...post is corrected!

Hiding in the bushes for hours? That's patience. I would just turn the water gun on myself after a bit. Have fun, assassins!

and pick up a squirt gun table while you're at it.

Ok, place your bets.
1:2 someone gets arrested by the cops.
1:10 someone gets shot by the cops (note to players- avoid rooftops, self storage lockers and well you know the rest).
Be safe.

I'm with Max. Surprising people with [plastic] weapons in a city as on edge as NCY is? Wasn't there a tragedy within the past few years involving school-age kids and waterguns?

I played Killer in high school--I was considering entering for this, but I don't think I have the stamina for it. Still, is it wise for subway stations to not be considered "safe zones"? I don't know if I'd want to see players running around & shoving people on a busy subway platform.

As long as I don't have to go to Staten Island to eliminate my target.

The Duane Reade with the awning is actually on 86th between the avenues of Lexington and Park.
