Less Small Time Pot Arrests?
The NYPD thinking about scaling back small pot busts and shift the focus on "major busts." Newsday reports that misdemeanor pot arrests would be limited to 40% for the Narcotics Division, while they would focus on dismantling drug crews that "peddle cocaine or heroin." Hey, now! Cops are privately grousing about Narcotics head Assistant Chief Anthony Izzo's plan will give pot smokers the liberty to smoke up everywhere. A police official defended Izzo, saying, "He wants results. He wants an impact. He's not telling them no marijuana collars. But he's also saying, 'If you jump out of the car' and bust someone for smoking pot, don't expect me to pat you on the back and call you a detective.'" Gothamist can only hope for interesting tales of big pot busts, like the Eldridge Street marijuana farm, pot being grown in Floyd Bennett Field, and the Brooklyn-Queens pot empire.
More fun fact about pot arrests from Newsday: The Narcotics Division "has made 4,305 marijuana arrests through June 19; At that pace, they would make less than the 11,574 made for all of last year. The rest of the NYPD, meanwhile, has made 13,367 marijuana arrests, a pace likely to top last year's 22,695."

"Fewer."
Fewer small time pot arrests.
Seconded. Thank you, Anon.
Finally the NYPD has realized that there are more important things to do then bust people for possession of pot.
This is a victory for all of us.
22,695 arrests?
Congratulations, NYPD, you have tracked down about .45% of NYC's pot-smoking "criminals."
True story: two days ago during PM rush hour, I saw a guy smoking pot between two cars on the (2) train, even in the Times Square station. He stank of it when he came back into the car.
About time...pot is way healthier than crack, lsd, ciggarats, beer, etc. in many ways. All of those (besides pot) kill...actually,think how many people pot has killed...exactly...zero. The reason...you be the judge. It's all the truth and it's even proven. Probably in a few months it will be legal(or years).Intill then...be patient. In a way...America/government doesnt really suck at all...huh.
