Bicycle Film Festival
The Bicycle Film Festival is back for it's fifth year of celebrating bikes (and the lifestyle of those upon them) through art, film, music and performance. The Opening Night Biker Party is tonight and features a live performance by Blonde Redhead(!), as well as the opening of the "Street" art exhibit.

The first night of films also starts tonight. Check out the full schedule here. We'd like to catch Still We Ride, the 40 minute short film about Critical Mass focusing on the 264 people that were arrested prior to the RNC on charges of disorderly conduct and parading without a permit. The August crackdown in NYC was the beginning of an ongoing effort to supress free assembly for group rides. The monthly cycle of arrests and bicycle seizures has forced the bike community into a legal battle with the city and politicized the very act of riding a bike. Check out a clip of the film.

The festival runs through Sunday with plenty of events (bike costume parade!), film showings, parties and of course group rides.

oh, the drama.
Rebels without a cause starring in a movie without a plot. How exciting. Jen's breathless prose is pretty funny, though. I'll have to remember that I'm engaged in a political act when I'm riding the riding around Central Park this weekend.
hey nola - yr cynicism is a political act as well. just a really boring one.
Nothing invites cynicism like a horde of aging slackers on bikes. But don't let me dampen your enthusiasm for this vital cause and the epic film it inspired.
just imagine the drama if the city neglected car drivers as much as it does bicyclists.
I heard charlton heston was brought out of retirement for this bike riding film. charlton stars as the angry bike rider. stephen boyd plays mike bloomberg. It flashes back and they are best friends, and biking buddies when they are youngsters. Fifty years later they go mano et mano in a bloody bike race to the death as they hurtle down second avenue. I have tickets for that one at the festival.
i would love to know the artist and title of the music played @ exactly saturday jan. 28 at 11:00 am cst. kind of a jazz guitar session for local weather on the 8's.
