Are Cows Coming Home to New York?

2005_05_cowscoming.jpgIf, like Gothamist, you've seen those posters of squeezy toy cows around town, with the words "The Cows Are Coming May 12" and wondered, "Hey, why are the cows coming?" but then forgot about it because, well, you were running ten minutes late or are lazy and didn't want to Google it on your Treo or just wanted to have a Treo but don't and you forgot about Googling "The Cows are Coming May 12" when you got home. Adweek's blog, Adfreak has wondered about the cows enough for a commenter to suggest that Nestle's Coffee Mate is behind the promotion; apparently the MTA said that the ad space was for Coffee Mate, but now they aren't saying who is involved. One thing is for sure: It's not another Cow Parade.

If the cows are coming, New York City's parks need fertilizer, so head there...or simply avoid all the steakhouses in the city. And you, too, can have your own executive stress cow squeeze toy for $2.99.

Great teaser ads; got so much attention. Bravo, [insert Nestle's ad agency]. Hope they fulfill the curiosity wisely and effectively.

Cute cow countdown... www.thecowsarecoming.com

I'm very curious. Hope it's something more exciting than a new dairy cream.

wow, the cows have black, brown and white patches. how multi-cultural.

I saw a similar poster in Maggie Moo's, the upscale ice-creamery on 7th Ave in Park Slope. Since they are a cow-themed franchise, maybe they're planning more in NYC... and hence "the cows are coming"?

Hmm, I think this might also be an ad for a Manhattan location of Maggie Moo's. I have one of those squeezable cows hanging out on my nightstand.

Some advice: if you're ever in a Maggie Moo's and they ask you if you've ever been there before and they give you their story. Don't say something like, "Oh, so basically you're like a Cold Stone Creamery?" I made the mistake of doing that and the guy behind the counter gave me the dirtiest look ever and replied with a, "...no. We're Maggie Moo's."

Cold Stone has better ice cream anyway. Plus, they sing! They don't sing at Maggie Moo's.

It is in fact a Coffeemate promotion. Guys are out on corners today giving out little cows with a card that reads: Check Out thecowsarecoming.com to hear about a special announcement on May 12th at 10am.

Does this mean they are putting milk into coffee-mate? Why would anyone who could drink milk use coffee-mate instead? Us lactose intolerant people who rely on dairy-free coffee-mate are confused by this promotion.

JP> Great analysis; you're probably right. That would be the payoff towards using cows in the teaser ads.

if you right click and say play it shows you the info before 10. have to be two people one with a vanilla cow and one with a hazelnut cow and then there is some sort of competition.

You should probably check out that url again...
