Upcoming

2005_02_artslehmannm.jpgDid you guys know winter was still here? Yeah, anyway, it'll be giving us some more snow this weekend which means that staying home and drinking hot chocolate (or red wine) and watching movies will likely be a top choice for most. But for the adventurous we offer the following choices, along with a spontaneous snowball fight:

MUSIC: The Willie Mae Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls, an offshoot of the original Rock Camp for Girls in Portland, Oregon, is scheduled to launch in Brooklyn August 2005. The new Brooklyn-based non-profit day camp will teach girls aged 8-18 how to play instruments, write songs, perform, and participate in workshops. This Sunday a Benefit Show for the First New York Rock Camp for Girls will feature Dynasty, The Vibration, Violator, The Assault, and Broadband plus very special guests!
This event takes place Sunday February 27 at Sin-e. Start time is 8pm and the cost is $10. Donate a musical instrument and get in free!
More music options here.

READING: We know, we said we didn't like readings. But we reserve the right to contradict ourselves at any time! That said, the Cupcake Series next reading (which is tonight) sounds pretty rad (we're bringing that word back). It's downstairs at Lolita [Broome & Allen] at 7:30pm and gives you a chance to share an evening with rock critic Ann Powers, in conversation with journalist Katherine Lanpher.
Katherine Lanpher is co-host of "The Al Franken Show," heard on Air America Radio. And Ann Powers has been writing about popular music and society since the early 1980s. She is the author of Weird Like Us: My Bohemian America and Tori Amos: Piece By Piece (co-authored with Tori), co-editor of Rock She Wrote: Women Write About Rock, Pop, and Rap. A pop critic for the New York Times from 1997 until 2001, and an editor for the Village Voice from 1993 until 1996. She is currently a curator at the Experience Music Project in Seattle.
So basically that's what we want our bio to look like in about 20 years.

ART: This weekend the latest exhibit at Lehmann Maupin Gallery is closing. So go check out Jun Nguyen-Hatsushiba's installation, which is comprised of films that are mostly shot underwater and explore and aim to redefine Japan and Vietnam. [Lehmann Maupin is located at 540 W 26th Street].
Oh, and you can always go see the Gates - this weekend is your last chance.

THEATER: Zoo Theatre presents "Mud", the second show of the company's first season . A dark comedy that offers a biting comment on poverty in America. Performed at the John Houseman Studio Theater [452 West 42nd Street (btw. 9th & 10th)].

Enjoy the cold!

retty much nothing seems worth thinking about. My life's been completely dull , not that it matters. I've just been staying at home waiting for something to happen.
