The Cool New Restaurant
Please, if any of our readers are in the Chelsea area, please take a picture of the igloo-for-diners outside of Basta Pasta at 37 West 17th Street. NY1 says that owner Toshi Suzuki builds an igloo every time there's a huge snowfall (this is his 4th in 15 years), and it apparently "seats four comfortably."
Really, you must watch the clip on NY1's site. And this makes us wonder about our ambitious plans for a shanty town in Central Park.

I saw this clip earlier, and it got me to wondering, how comfortably does one sit on milk crates? I mean, clearly people would dine in this igloo for the novelty, and I appreciate their good spirit, but in addition to being completely bootleg, it looks kind of dirty, in that days-old snow way. It's not that inexpensive there, either. Maybe all this snow is just making me cranky.
I work on W 17th, so I walked over to check it out. The igloo had collapsed already when I got there. (Pic here.)
We saw that yesterday. I figured a homeless guy was living in it. I guess I was wrong. I also thought it was terribly dangerous. What would prevent a plow from driving right through/over it? [comment also posted a C's]
Hey, are those legal milk crates? Was it not too long ago that people sitting on milk crates were arrested, fined, jailed, tortured, whatever?
