Everyone Has A Case Of The Mondays!

2005_01_officespace.jpg

Everyone, it's the most depressing day of the year, according to part-time tutor at Cardiff University. Now, Gothamist doesn't usually heed the advice of part-time tutors (only full-time tutors, please), but given that the Brits have stiff upper-lips and notable reserve, we do take any proof as to why we might be cranky and depressed very seriously. BBC News writes

Foul weather, debt, fading Christmas memories, failed resolutions and a lack of motivation conspire to depress, Cliff Arnalls found.

The formula for the day of misery reads 1/8W+(D-d) 3/8xTQ MxNA.

Where W is weather, D is debt - minus the money (d) due on January's pay day - and T is the time since Christmas. Q is the period since the failure to quit a bad habit, M stands for general motivational levels and NA is the need to take action and do something about it.

Gothamist loves you, British expert-in-winter-disorder-nerds! And it seems the Cliff Arnalls is a doctor of some sort, so Gothamist totally buys the story as science and will ignore that it could be a new excuse to hit the pub today.

Watch Office Space tonight to take the edge off of things...and here are some Office Space sound files to make the day go faster; and here's a TPS cover sheet. Um, yeah?

For the sake of the tutored, let's hope Arnalls' part-time tutoring doesn't include math. That's one hell of an equation! By runnning that non-story the BBC certainly verifies the assertions made in Daniel Okrent's column yesterday about innumeracy in the media.

Hey, Jen. I just wanted to take a moment to apologize to you. I have, several times in the past, commented on your grammar and/or spelling slip-ups -- and, perhaps, I wasn't particularly "nice" about it. However, that will now stop, as I've just gotten a look at how insanely hot you are. You could use this site to type out inane gibberish for the rest of your life, and I would still sit here and read it all with a smile.

So, anyway, please accept my apology, and thank you for all the work you've done. And give my regards to your parents.

I love that movie Office Space!

I used to just block out the time between New Years and Presidents Day as time to watch the calendar and fight off S.A.D., but in the last couple of years I've come to love January. I even like bundling up against the cold weather (getting a kickass coat and hat didn't hurt) and I like the peace and how the city moves a little slower after the Christmas maddness. So cheer up!

I agree with Rose - Office Space rock! :-)
