What To Say When You See Ethan Hawke

2005_01_hawkemcgrath.jpg

Once in a while, the Today Show can really come through, because it's made any possible Ethan Hawke sighting marginally more interesting. See, during a Today Show interview, apparently either Hawke or one of his handlers told the Today Show (probably in a pre-interview) - or maybe the crack Today Show research team dug this up - that he gets mistaken for Sugar Ray frontman Mark McGrath. Gothamist couldn't tell if Hawke was irritated or amused, but them's the breaks when you are white, chiseled and prone to growing suspect facial hair from time to time. So, if you're wandering around the West Village or Chelsea and see Hawke, tell him how much you love his duet with Shania, and how you were doubtful of him hosting Extra, but now you love catching up on all the Jennifer-and-Brad gossip with him. Finally, email Gawker Stalker. It's probably a nice break from all the "Damn! I can't believe you let Uma get away!"

GASP! Mark McGrath is exponentially cuter than Ethan Hawk. Tell me where I can stalk HIM!

Mark McGrath should be so lucky.

Great snarky story, helps get the day started. I used to live around the corner from the Corner Bistro, and used the see Ethan from time to time (usually on the street and alone, oddly enough). I was always temped to hand him a razor and the address of the nearest shelter.

'Course, then I realized who it was and thought I guess it's okay...

i think he [Ethan] will be facing the Uma question for a while...everytime she walks the red carpet or shows up in a movie... poor guy will have to pony up a response.

What? Mark McGrath is, of course, handsomer than Ethan Hawke. Maybe there's a nanometer similarity in the flare of their nostrils but otherwise I don't see it.

McGrath may be "hotter," but he seems much more like a beer-guzzling, fight-picking, alterna-jock meathead than Hawke, don't you think?

i saw ethan hawke in an elevator last week, and it's true...all i could think was, "damn, you let uma get away."

poor guy.

When I worked for Atlantic Records, I was the guy who first brought Sugar Ray around the office to meet the staff (circa 1995 - yes they've been around that long). Of course there were a lot of melting girls all over the place. Not surprisingly, the chatter was "Oh my god! He looks like Ethan Hawke!"

Sure, because "melting girls" don't know better than "hot women".

Ahem--knowing about Sugar Ray back in the day isn't exactly something to show off. (It has about the same value as saying you've been a Britney Spears fan since '95.)

Ugh...they're both tools...though Hawke isn't nearly as bad as the McGrath.

Yes, both tools, but different variety of tools. Hawke's somewhat pretentious, but overall has a brain and his heart in the right place; McGrath is just worthless other than his debateable physical attractiveness.

My friend Chris Pouy looks just like Mark McGrath! Now he looks just like Ethan Hawke too. I guess my point is that many people share similar features, but we are all different on the inside.

OMGNW!!! I know Chris Pouy also. I've always thought he looks like that douche from Sugar Ray, but I've always suspected him of being even douchier. Now he also resembles the douche that was douchy enough to cheat on Uma Thurman. Douche.

What!? You guys are crazy Ethan is way (un-comparably) better looking.. That guy has a chubby face
