Fall From Grace

Less than three weeks ago, Bernard Kerik was nominated as the Secretary of Homeland Security. Since then, he has withdrawn his nomination and now quit his job at Giuliani Partners. Citing the publicity around his cabinet nomination and the subsequent flap over nannies, mistresses, contracts, apartment lovin', etc, Kerik decided that it was unfair of him to sully the good name of Giuliani's firm.
For his part, Rudy is saying that he did not ask for Kerik's resignation despite all the news surrounding his former business partner. One of Giuliani Partners affiliates, formally called Guiliani-Kerik, has been renamed Giuliani Security & Safety.
The bigger they are... What comes around... Eh, insert your own saying here.

Let's not forget all that Bernie did for NYC. It's easy to get caught up in a scandal, but when it all comes down to it we should remember that because of him, we are all safer and enjoy a more habitable city.
I too am no Kerik fan, but Christ, what an awful turn of events in 3 weeks time. Didn't he realize this stuff was going to come out with his nomination? It seems it will only get worse from here.
"we should remember that because of him, we are all safer and enjoy a more habitable city."??
Well, Crime is down now too. Was this due to Kerik as well? We should remember that when Bratton was commisioner and Crime Droped, so did Bratton on account that the Media and public credited him with the drop, Guilianni had a snit.
Kerik did an Ok job, but These scandals happened before and durring his time as Commish. As for 9/11 Even a dirty rotten scoundrel can occasionally do the right thing.
And what exactly did Bernie do for NY again? Let's see... he stood right over Rudy's shoulder the second the klieg lights switched on, bobbed from camera to camera as bodies fell behind him on the eleventh, and threatened to beat up subordinates who wouldn't work for Republicans in their off hours.
A true hero if there ever was one.
If you want to know why the city is safer today, send thank you cards to Bill Bratton and Ray Kelly, and save one for the cop on the corner, all of whom did the heavy lifting when the city was coming apart at the seams. Kerik is more like the guy who sits in the orchestra and plays one note in the third act then tells people he wrote the whole damn opera. And will knock your teeth out if you disagree.
and let's not cry for poor bernie kerik. his "resignation" from giuliani partners will surely come with a large golden parachute of some kind. he'll keep consulting to lesser known companies and will make a lot of money for the rest of his life.
kerik is a crook who abused his authority as commish and made subordinates work on his book on the city's dollar. he is as anti american as they come-- stating during the pres. campaign that anyone who openly disagrees with the president is helping our enemies. Disgusting crook. he should do some time in jail. i am sure he will not. oh, well, at least he is getting some public shaming.
"we should remember that because of him, we are all safer and enjoy a more habitable city."
that wouldn't have anything to do with the simultaneously improving economy, would it? i credit the citizens of NY and the cop on the street before this over-glorified high school dropout bully who stole my tax dollars to rent out his secret love nest and employ his illegal tax-free nanny.
As someone who grew up in this city and can remember when Alphabet City was akin to the fourth ring of The Inferno, I'd say anyone who worked to bring this city back from the brink of that particular hell should be thanked. If anything all the self-righteous hipsters infesting the LES right about now should be on their knees licking his feet.
MT, you are funny. Lick his feet. Line forms to the left, MT will be starting out.
self-righteous hipsters are the same people that helped to recover the neighborhood. it's an old story... poor artists who can't afford to live in the glitzier parts of the city moving in, making improvements, building community and attracting business with their 'hipness' only to get priced out and slammed just for contributing. don't forget to lick their feet too.
Isn't what's really important here the fact that the Lowdown in the Daily News will no longer be mentioning Paris Hilton in its gossip pages? Let's keep our eyes on the ball people.
