Move Over Candy Cigarettes, It's The Pot Lollipop

2004_12_chroniccandy.jpg

NYC politicians are up in arms about the pot-flavored candy for sale in 43 NYC stores and on the Internet (the Daily News says they are "smoking mad" - heh!). Chronic Candy's site proclaims "every lick is like taking a hit," and with flavors like Acapulco Gold and order sizes like "nickel bag," and founder Antonio Montana says it's for adults (like Snoop Dogg and Paris Hilton, who are customers) not kids. But kids are eating them, leading, Councilwoman Margarita Lopez to say, "How could we go into market and create a product for children that encourages them to taste the taste of marijuana?" One Queens store owner who sells the candy says that he only sells them to adults (he has a no-pot-sales to those under 18 rule). Yeah, just like the underage can't get a hold of cigarettes or alcohol, that'll really work! Anyway, Gothamist is confused - is pot legal to be sold as a sugar product? Or is the sugar content so high that the sugar is the buzz-generator, versus the pot? Anyone whose tried some Chronic Candy - let us know!

The Chronic Candy site has been suspended. Nice work, Daily News. From what Gothamist gathered earlier this morning, there were many different kinds of candy for sale, as well as a DVD and clothing for men and women.

LEGALIZE IT

where can you get this in nyc (specifically around usq)? do you know if any bodega will carry this?

I prefer crack caramel.

My cousin brought one back from Amsterdam and gave it to me. I wasn't going to try it at first, but then I thought it might help my upset stomach. You do get a light everything-is-going-to-be-all-right buzz, but it's kind of killed by the really nasty metallic taste that lingers in your mouth the whole night. I can't imagine any kid enjoying this except in the "Ew, this is gross, want to try it?" kind of way, it might actually turn them OFF of pot.

Duh. The lollipops contain no THC, the active ingredient in marijauna. You'll probably get just as high as you would by using hemp lip balm from the Body Shop. Pot flavor does not mean high-inducing, but it's wrong all the same. How about heroin dip-it sticks? Rock candy?

So now the Candyman really is the Candyman.
Secret ingredient: they mix it with love and make the world taste good.

Anon is correct - it doesn't actually contain marijuana. It's the pot equivalent of candy cigarettes, or the candy equivalent of those pot-scented incense sticks.

in the 90's there were pens that were designed to look like syringes, that were being sold in stationary stores. all the politicos freaked out about it. but in the end, who cares. thats not going to cause kids to shoot up.

Who honestly is the target market for this? Smart (and rich) kids will smoke good weed. Stupid (and poor) kids will smoke bad weed. Maybe bored straight-edgers who feel like being wild will suck on these pops for rebellious kicks.

dude. i ate one. got me high as a motherfucker. i was seeing wierd shit and i ate a whole bag of peanuts. fuck yah , this rocks my tube socks.

hey those lollipops gave me the shits and i was on the toilet for 3 days straight what the fuck! i sucked a guys dick too. i kinda licked that though. cum rocks!

well, if u like suckin dick than these are for u, i just wish i knew how high these could get u compared to smoking pot... that whole no thc thing is kinda a bringdown.

i got some of these at a concert i went to. you can get them at chroniccandy.com .. they taste pretty good. but they cant get you high so i dont see why they shouldnt be legal.
