Skating In The City

2004_12_buddyonskates.jpgToday's NY Times piece about proposed plans to put a portable skating rink in Bryant Park during the winter has some great information about where you can skate in New York City:
- Rink at Rockefeller Center (Fifth Avenue between 49th and 50th Streets): $14 on weekdays, $17 on weekends; does not include skate rentals
- Wollman Rink in Central Park (east side of the park, between 63rd and 64th Streets): $8.50 for adults on weekdays and $11 on weekends
- Lasker Rink in Central Park (at 107th Street): $4.50 for adults
- Sky Rink at Chelsea Piers (at 23rd Street and the Hudson River): $13.50 for adults
- Riverbank Skating Rink (at 145th Street and Riverside): $4.50 for adults

Ice skating rinks are so en vogue these days. Frank Gehry's plan for the Brooklyn Nets arena includes a skating rink. And the Eiffel Tower is even putting a skating rink on the first floor platform which is 187 feet high. Yet this is nothing new: The World Trade Center used to have a portable rink in the plaza (and the THINK Design team's plan included a skating rink).
