U2's Free Concert In Brooklyn Today

There have been rumors of a free U2 concert in New York for the past week or so, and now there's confirmation: Today, U2 will be performing at Empire Fulton Ferry State Park in Brooklyn, which is between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges at Plymouth and Washington Streets. MTV is filming the performance to coincide with publicity for U2's new album. For tickets, click here for 1iota.com's MTV surprise performance; arrival time is 2:30PM, the show starts at 3PM.
And did you see U2 on Saturday Night Live? They did three songs, and finished with "I Will Follow" finishing over the closing credits. Bono and The Edge went into the audience, who went wild. The cast was going crazy as well, and it seemed like U2 performed another song after that one.

To clarify, the concert is on Monday.
got my ticket!
are any of you guys there in the gothamist headquarters going to head over to the show?
Hey, what's up with Bono? He looked psycho, especially during the last song when he straddled one of the audience members.
"Please dress like you are going to a club. NO large logos or white clothing please, as it is bad for camera."
what am i going to wear?
Got my tix. Should be fun.
Also, U2 on SNL was pretty good, especially the last song "I Will Follow." They pretty much ripped it.
david,
1iota does the "dress like you are going to a club" thing for every show. Don't worry about it - just don't wear anything that makes the camera go crazy.
Just dress like you're going to... um.. a U2 concert.
Video and mp3 of U2 on SNL.
Is this concert indoors or is it outside in the park?
It looked to me like Bono was doing his Ray Charles impersonation. Spending too much time with J. Foxx perhaps?
I think the audience member he straddled was Stella McCartney.
According to U2log.com, tickets are not required for the show... Can anyone confirm?
MTV says it is "sold out." But I know that park very well, you should be able to at least hear it from the clocktower building or over by St. Anns... and if you are walking across the bridge you should be able to see something (you'll definitely hear it from the bridge).
If I can play hooky from work I'm there... how often is there a free U2 concert down the hill from my house???!!! :>)
U2 is driving south on Broadway on a flatbed truck peforming right now. They just started at 122 and Broadway at 11 AM. I believe their destination is the MTV studio.
Any word on if U2 is playing right now in times square.
I was just in Times Square near the MTV studio and no sign of them.
i'm already leaving work at 2 to make it to brooklyn in time ^_^
any new news? i hear its just a tv spot, does that mean no music or what? I'll go even for just one song.
that iota shit, does that mean ppl who dont have tickets can't get close enough? cuz the U2 site says no tickets required.
"There will be no concert at Washington Square Park. It was the original location for the event, but on review they decided the area was too busy and not large enough to house the number of people expected at the show."
That quote is taken from U2log.com. What does that mean? Do people realize how small Fulton Ferry State Park is? It will be filled to the brim! It's a really, reall small area. And not well suited for a concert by a long shot. They should have hit Prospect Park.
If the crowds are that big, the area will be trashed. Thanks Bono, for ruining our park!
i just saw them pass by 5th ave n rockefeller, fucking great up close and playing on the flatbed. I will def be at the park to see em, i hope they play more music ^_^
Just saw them drive by 7th Ave and 30th St -- got really close, but only got a blurry shot of Bono.
They passed by Penn Station on the flat bed at 2:00. They weren't playing--may have been between songs. I heard them finishing a song as they approached Penn. They were just sort of standing there, waving at people. Small crowd following them/chasing the flat bed. The truck was moving continously and they had a police escort, so they've probably reached the village by now.
They had started playing again by about 29th st.
crazy good pictures from broadway between 37th and 42nd, but i can't figure out how to post them here. :( singing the new single, plus snippets of christmas songs and a little bit of "when you wish upon a star" - until bono forgot the words.
Gar... they weren't playing went they passed Houston & Varick five minutes ago.
Just got back from chasing them from 14th to Christopher, they played "I Will Follow".
U2-stalker update -- photos of them on Varick:

Wow, it's reactions like these that feed Bono's gargantuan ego. Say, they're a great band, it's nice they're doing a free concert yadda yadda... but chill, you're New Yorkers. These things happen all the time. Not like U2's never playing a concert ever again.
just got back from the concert ... it rocked. only about 3-5,000 people were allowed in - most were on the RSVP list. U2 didn't start playing until around 4:30, alas, so i had to leave after a few songs.
They played for about an hour, from about 4:30 to 5:30. I think the timing was driven by lighting. (Rock concerts aren't Swiss trains, I guess). Here's the songlist, as best I can remember:
Vertigo
All Because of You
Miracle Drug
Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own
City of Blinding Lights
Original of the Species
She's A Mystery Girl
Beautiful Day
I Will Follow
Out of Control
Vertigo
Great evening for an intimate rock concert.
U2 rocked!
U2 in Times Square.
Unbelievable. Photos aren't the best, but I was too busy enjoying every single second of this fantastic afternoon. :)
I knew I was gonna mess that up. Screw style. Here you go:
