Williamsburg Bank Goes Condo

One of the most striking buildings in Brooklyn, the Williamsburg Bank Building, be converted into condos to be on the market in 2006. The Post reports that the coveted-for-resale-potential building was "massively expensive," and that the building (actually in Fort Greene, as pointed out by reader Astrid) will offer more than 180 luxury residential units. With some of the most stunning views of the Manhattan available, Gothamist expects the units to break Brooklyn records, sort of the same way DUMBO's Clock Tower conversion stunned the area. NY magazine's neighborhood profiles for Fort Greene and Williamsburg.
Other stats: Built in 1929, the building is 512 feet and 34 stories. More about the Williamsburg Bank Building from Forgotten NY. And check out the big prices for Williamsburg's current luxury building du jour, The Gretsch, at Curbed.

It should be noted that this building is not IN Williamsburg; it sits at approximately the intersection of Flatbush and Atlantic, across from the new, awful Atlantic Center. It's technically in Fort Greene.
here is Fort Greene profile since yes, this building is in Fort Greene and if you want to push it, near Prospect Heights.

Good points, both of you - thanks!
That's considered in Fort Greene? Who knew? Is BAM in Fort Greene then? I always just generically called it "downtown," or Prospect Heights.
Anyone know if the HSBC will still be sticking around?

some say this bank is very phallic.
I'm pretty sure it's in Fort Greene, or at least on the outskirts. When I used to walk to Brooklyn Tech, the building was a very visible landmark I could use to gauge my distance from school. There is or at least was a Quicktime VR panorama of Brooklyn taken from the building floating around the Web somewhere, which would give a good idea of what kind of view to expect from the condos, but darned if I can find it now.
Hey Jen, thanks for the highlight of my photo, and I hope more drop by.
Joe Holmes has an excellent panoramalamadingdong from atop the building, here.
link for DUMBO is broken ;[
The building has an H at the end of it. It's Williamsburgh. I should know.
