Mayor Serves Harlem...Pancakes!

2004_10_ihop.jpg

For the love of seeing our billionaire mayor join the ranks of the service industry momentarily, check out the Mayor's appearance at the new Harlem IHOP on NY1. It's as good as him trying to man a cash register at the Get Organized New York event. This event was the IHOP's grand opening, even though it's been around for over a month, and the Mayor was joined by Congressman Charles Rangel in the festivities celebrating the economic upturn Harlem has been seeing and will hopefully sustain. And according to the Post, the Mayor's clever speech writing staff provided him with the golden "I could never understand why we didn't have an IHOP in Manhattan. Now we do." Well, maybe he came up with that himself. The Mayor also mentioned that he didn't think layoffs would come as he and his team start fiscal planning to combat the city's $3 billion deficit; basically, he just expects city agencies, like the NYPD and FDNY, to seriously slash their own budgets.

See the Mayor's speech at IHOP from his own site. The Harlem IHOP is at 135th Street and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard. And for other service industry perspectives, check out Waiter Rant.

We didn't need an IHOP because for many years we had the Upper West Side's legendary Royal Canadian Pancake House. Mourn you till I join you, playa.
