Terminal Five: Art At The Old TWA Terminal

2004_09_twa5.jpg

The famed TWA Terminal at JFK designed by Eero Saarinen will be the venue for an art for the new few months. Before becoming a part of Jet Blue's terminals, Rachel K. Ward has curated a show, Terminal Five, which, according to the site, will "respond to the transitory nature of travel, architecture and contemporary art. Sculpture, installation, sound, performance and other media take place within the luggage carousels, ticket counters, VIP lounges, staircases and the tunnel walkway." This photograph above is from David Gallagher, who has one of the most notable collections of TWA Terminal photographs online at lightningfield. He went to the exhibits opening and tells Gothamist that Jenny Holzer did the departures board. We enjoy David's photographs, because it shows how airports and modern functional design can be a form of daily art.

The story about the TWA Terminal at JFK, a building I love, is confusing. Is there a current exhibit there? Or is this simply about the infamous one-minute show a couple of years ago.

And the flash show only shows one photo on my PC. Period.
