Rooftop Protest Banners

2004_08_roof1.jpg

Since aerial shots are a little tougher for photobloggers to capture, Gothamist is thankful for the local news choppers, which are taking a break from traffic reports to show images of the protest banners on New York City rooftops. WNBC's RNC coverage page has these photos (above and below) of what some people have put on their roofs for passing planes. Welcome to NY, folks.

In other protest news, the Plaza Hotel rappllers were freed without bail, as were the ACT UP naked protesters. The tabloids are loving how the parents of one of the ACT UP protesters, NYU student Diana Gonzalez, emailed her, writing, "We would never expect to see our daughter naked on television on our wedding anniversary."

Love it! Hope they got permission from the land lord. I Wonder if these are visable from the Empire State Building?

Those are great. Thank you for posting them. (From a voter far away in California.)

The banners were obviously made by one person or group of persons.

Oh, definitely by one group of people. I'm thinking they just ran onto as many rooftops as they could, much the way you do to see what's the best view from Brooklyn to see 4th of July fireworks...

It's so nice to see the real news! To see how many people really hate Bush, rather than having to swallow the rigged polls saying it's a tight race. I don't believe it's a tight race.

I remember reading a story about this earlier this week. A woman in Queens is making many of them on request from her neighbors. The people putting these banners up are the people who live in those buildings.

We have a few on our roof as well, in the brooklyn navy yards. We're right on the flight lane for LGA, and they're also visible from the BQE.

Marvelous. Thanks, will spread this among my friends!
