Gothamist/Whatevs Smackdown

With the New Jersey Nets and Detroit Pistons face-off in second round the NBA playoffs being one of the most exciting match-ups (well, before game 1, at least), Gothamist and Whatevs have decided to have a friendly wager. If the Nets win, Whatevs will send over some Vernors Ginger Beer, some music from Detroit (Motown, MC5; no ICP, please), and a t-shirt. If the 'Stons win, Gothamist will send over from salt water taffy from Atlantic City, music from one of the Garden State's great musicians (the Boss, Frank Sinatra, Jon Bon Jovi), and a Gothamist t-shirt. May the best team win, obvs.
Gothamist does have to say that Ben Wallace should always play with a 'fro, if only because this is the best ever trash-n-trinket NBA toy. Stupid Nets, can't even have a freaking toy in their NBA store.
Game 2 is this Friday.

I advise you to start getting your package ready. This series is over.
Rather than Vernor's, I would have asked for a sixer of Bell's
we're not sure how bell's would have shipped. and with all the options, i think we would have gone insane choosing just one.
As a dedicated Miami Heat fan, I'd like to know if there are any Indiana bloggers out there.
And wait just a second, Gothamist. YOUR team was already eliminated. Shouldn't the Nets belong to New Jersey?
Well, the Nets are moving to Brooklyn...plus, my Jersey roots are showing through. And Gothamist wanted an excuse to say "obvs" and "durst," whatever they mean.
OBVS THIS BET IS BEST! shmears!
fear the fro in `04!
I would have picked some Faygo Red Pop or Rock 'N Rye over Vernors but that's just me.
Vernors rules!!! It can be bought upstate, btw.
Maybe you should have made the bet for some of Rasheed Walace's pre-game weed.
Strohs before ho's, bovs.
vernors... now i'm homesick!
i never got into the whole faygo thing. i think it's just the way the word had to roll out of the mouth with a michigan accent. but vernors...i loved that stuff. i even brough a few bottles back with me when i visited last fall.
just don't inhale when you're drinking that stuff, you'll suffocate. but i'm also a fan of faygo rock 'n rye.
the first few times i had vernors, i sneezed because of all the fizz. you know it's a fine product when they have it in the dorm soda fountain.
Joey:
As others posting here (leafblower, cough cough) know, I am your unofficial Internet Pacers fan. So let me say, that Heat-Hornets series was the equivalent of overtime at the JV game. Yuck. Enjoy it while it lasts!
Although I like Dwyane Wade, not the least of which is because he's the got the great Micheal Ray Richardson/Michael Williams name misspelling, and because he played at the high school a mile from my house.
Tien,
NO such thing as a Michigan accent! Scores of network broadcasters are sent to Indiana or Michigan to receive training on how to properly speak. Everywhere else has an accent *grin*.
Mary, marry, merry. It's all the same out of a true Michiganders mouth...
A Michigan "accent"... now that's comedy. Seriously though, most people in Michigan (unless you're in certain areas) have painfully boring speech (i.e., plain-vanilla American English "accent"). Most of those weird-talkers are from Wisconsin or Chicago. Really (yes, I am from Michigan).
my favorite is melk = milk, and da Yoopers have a distinct accent of their own.
it's not like i haven't been to michigan to witness the accent. "mom" sound painfully like "mam" with some people.
and i generally don't think i have a new york accent. except for orange, drawer, and a few other select words.
there was an old bit on SNL, gosh, probably about 10 years ago that revolved around the Michigan accent. it was called "daansin' in Laansin'" (aka "dancing in lansing") or something to that effect. to this day, best representation of the Michigan accent i've ever heard.
that being said, Midwestern accents are widely known to be the best in the world. however, get too far north (beginning mid-state and extending north) and accents become horribly durst horribly quick. downstate is where it's at, baby!
and milk = melk is more Missouri than MI. bovs.
D-TOWN! whut whut!
I lived in Michigan for 36 years and just moved to Georgia. I did not realize how nasal we sound until people started pointing it out. Most people think I am from Fargo! I miss party stores and Better Made Potato chips!
No Michigan accent? Whaat arrrrya, crayzee? http://www.michigannative.com/michiganaccent.shtml
you should have asked for slum village and fat cat
