Strangers with Candy and Ferris and Patty

New York darlings Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker will be taking roles in the Strangers with Candy movie. Of course, Broderick is still best known for playing Ferris Bueller and Parker honed her teenager-in-high school acting chops as Patty Greene on the short-lived sitcom, Square Pegs (not mentioning playing an immature-as-a-higher-schooler on Sex and the City). The Hollywood Reporter says that the couple's friendship with Strangers with Candy co-creator and star, and all-around amazing talent, Amy Sedaris, led to their participation, but let's face it, those two wanted some edgy credibility, or else they'll be in the Ferris Bueller/Leo Bloom and Carrie Bradshaw ghettos forever. Strangers with Candy, the movie, will start shooting this June in NYC.
There's an excellent unofficial Amy Sedaris page that links to a Time Out interview with some choice Amy quotes ("I didn't even know it was the Year of the Monkey—I'm just a year-round monkey gal. Monkeys are the best, right?") Season Two of Strangers for Candy is out on DVD. Gothamist previously on Strangers with Candy.
And was anyone else distracted when seeing Stephen Colbert play the forger on Law & Order: Criminal Intent last night? He was great, but I kept wanting him to break into searing political commentary or act Mr. Noblet-y.

what about colbert as the angro photographee on curb your enthusiasm?
oh. my. god. does anyone know how i can get hooked up as a pa/extra/slave for this? i must get involved somehow - they say filming is to start in april here in nyc...this news makes me as moist as a snackcake down there!
for sure sjp should play step-mom.
Jerri Blank: Hey Stew, you seen my mother?
Stew: Which one? The real one, the dead one, or the one I'm having sex with?
Leo Bloom as Drake...
Jerri Blank: Why did you spread those vicious lies?
Drake Rogers: Cus you didn't spread those vicious thighs.
it was Stephen Colbert night last night, wasn't it?
Everyone's bacon is clearly sizzling over the news. Did anyone see Amy Sedaris on Late Show with David Letterman, right before she guested on Sex and the City, and she talks about her friendship with SJP and how SJP is really cruel and how Amy loves loves love Matthew Broderick? Amy is the best.
And it was Stephen Colbert on Criminal Intent. I know!
do you know how Amy and Sarah met? on the set of the MTC show Wonder of the World -- anyone see it? Amy sold her almond flavor cupcakes to the interns for one of our weekly seminars and at the cast/crew meet and greet she was serving donuts to all of us. she's nutty!
I've been theater stalking Amy for years with a friend of mine because she's the best. Had one of her cupcakes at the Wonder of the World show, which was great (the show and the cupcake). Book of Liz was pretty good too. Our best meet-up was recognizing her at the Union Square B&N while her brother was doing a reading several years ago. We managed to get double inscriptions in Me Talk Pretty from Amy and David, which stands as one of my favorite NYC moments. Can't wait for SWC the movie.
Erg, sorry but Wonder of the World was seriously one of the worst things on stage I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot). Clearly the only thing it was good for was introducing Amy and SJP. The play was sooooo bad, boring, and unfunny! But Book of Liz, actually anything Amy writes is brilliant, but y'all know dat. My two cents.
"I'm as moist as a snack cake down there."
I can't wait for the movie.
I saw it Jen. It was hilarious. Also great was SJP on Letterman telling the story of how Amy was pretending to have an affair with Matt on the set of SITC which was the beginning of their friendship.
Amy!
sex in the city guest appearance was after wonder of the world. . .i'm pretty sure it was because of wonder of the world. just FYI.
colbert was rather hilarious as the bent out of sape and browbeaten husband who tried to put a hex on larry david.
"Why does your finger smell like his ass?"
I HEART Ferris Bueller :)
Oh man, this is a dream come true. My obsessions with SJP and SWC/Amy Sedaris satisfied in one place? Unbelievable.
"Oh, it's you. I thought I smelled ball smoke".
BWAH!
Glad to see others who are into Strangers with Candy. None of my friends appreciate this hiLARious show and I am left to relish it on my own.
I am glad I live in NYC now...I can skulk around the SWC location shoots :)
must see website for swc fans: www.jerriblank.com
it's hilAAARRRRious! also, my sassy and ballsy roommate emailed the production company in charge of the swc movie, and asked how we could get involved, and they said they'd "be in touch". hmm...not too promising but still, one can dream - and that's my dream, to dream. it's nice to hope for the thing you wish to want!
is this movie having any open casting calls, i have to be in it
