Six Million Dollar Man Movie
Variety reports that Jim Carrey is in talks to star in a comic version the Six Million Dollar Man. "The long-in-development action film became a fast-tracked comedy after Carrey and his managers Jim Miller and Eric Gold had the idea to marry an exaggerated sendup of an action film to the six million dollar man title." Well, sure, exaggerated works for Carrey, but call us purists, but there's something so cool about Lee Majors's seriousness as Steve Austin. With Carrey, it'd be Six Million Dollar Bruce Amighty, which Gothamist can do without.

please god no.
No one is better than Lee Majors our fall guy! ;-)
The six million dollar man was originally
(the first couple of seasons)an awesome,
inspiring, and and original show that succeeded because it was NOT campy. It dealt with what
it would be like to be a cyborg, both the
good and the frightening. Turning it into
a *&^%$#ing comedy should be punishable by
death.

this stinks growing up with good sci fi and now as an adult looking for that and getting comedic changes come onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!???
Making the S.M.D.M. into a campy, screwball comedy is just plain disappointing.
I'd always imagined that the classic 70's TV series could be made into an incredible modern film - especially with today's special effects capabilities. While I am a big fan of Jim Carrey; this proposed film is a major let down after 25 years of waiting...
With the major let down in Hollywood creativety
such as Lost In Space, Star Trek Gen. and Battle Star Gallactica. Whom ever is making these decissions should be busted in the head with a medium size boulder until death or even worse.
Jim Carrey is a great comic actor ,but would be bested by Mathew McCaughney in this role.
In the words of the late James Coburn from the movie "Payback" "that's mean man, just plain mean." Why, Why, why why why would anybody put "Fire Marshal Bill" as Steve Austin? Why? Next, they'll talk about a Kinght Rider revival with a Toyota Echo. No, this decision was just plain wrong. Top candidates to play Steve Austin, #1 Nick Cage, #2 Russell Crowe, or at the very worst #3 George Cloney. As Oscar Goldman, #1 Morgan Freeman, #2 Kevin Spacey, #3 Tommy Lee Jones. The show itself was based off of the book Cyborg by Martin Caddin and the book was just off the chain which is why they obviously made it into a TV show. To see something so great get reduced to something so small is simply a waste of good material.
I always thought Mark Wahlberg would be good as SMDM
Jim Carrey is GOD!!! So let his will be DONE
I was very excited when I heard that there would be a $6 Million Man remake. When I heard it was going to be a comedy with Jim Carrey, I was more than dissapointed, I was insulted. Carrey is a great comedic actor and I love his movies. Six Million Dollar man is not a comedy. It is serious sci-fi. A comedic remake is a slap in the face to fans everywhere. The group of people who saw something wonderful in shows like "Star Trek" and "Six Million Dollar Man" have suffered enough ridicule. To think we are going to buy a movie ticket for more of the same is ridiculous.
Imagine a serious version, with the laws of physics kept in tact and modern day special affects. Hands down, every fan from the 70's show would be lined up buying a ticket on opening night, including me. A comedy with Jim Carrey? Not only would I not go, I would be angry and resentful.
I agree, when i was a kid in the 70's "The six million dollar man" was my childhood hero,I had the action figure and the games and collected the bubble gum cards, it was even a big occasion when he would hookup with bionic women, and now they are going to turn it to a comedy, are they crazy, they are dealing with a classic show, they destroyed "starky and Hutch" remake and now they are going to screw up another dam good 70 show, hollywood is losing it for sure. mike s

If Hollywood wants to screw around with the great shows, sci-fi, or otherwise, why not a comedy about the 10 commandments, or cleopatra? Leave great sci-fi as it is, great sci-fi! SMDM was I believe every kids fantasy, to be bionic, and smart, not to be bionic, and stupid. Get Mark Wahlberg, or even Matt Damon for Steve Austin. Leave Jim Carrey where is at his best, comedy. SMDM was meant to be a serious show, that had comedy written in by great writers, not a comedy with some if any, serious parts put in. I would not even bother buying a ticket, or even the DVD/VHS if this movie is a comedy, it would be Jim Carrey, a comedian suffering from bad comedy, an idiot barely alive, hell pull the plug, don't rebuild him.....
I'm with everybody. There is so much potential for a $6 million Dollar Man Movie. They could really make a good study of Steve Austin and his mental conflicts. How much is he as a person really worth? Does the technology make him more of a man? etc. They say they are going to play on the fact that $6 million would not buy as much today as then. I think "Inspector Gadget" has already been done. I think it should be done with more of a James Bond type feel. It could be really great with a lot of action-packed stunts. Mark Wahlberg would be great. In the end he could get the girl who loves and values him as a man..not as a cyborg.
A remake of the "Six Million Dollar Man" is a good idea. But to make a comedic version of this great tv series is disgraceful. Even worse is to let Jim Carrey portray the character of Steve Austin which is stupid from the beginning. Jim Carrey is not a serious action star and people would not like it. The best candidates to portray the role of Steve Austin are actors such as: Matt Damon, Hugh Jackman, Ben Affleck, Tom Crusise, and Colin Ferrell.
The next movie project would have to be "The Bionic Woman". The perfect female actress to portray the role of Jamie Summers is Jennifer Garner. Her performance on "Alias" is spectacular with her martial arts style and gracious beauty. She is sure to bring in box office millions if she is chosen for the role of Jamie Summers.
I agree with everything all of you have said. To make this a comedy is a terrible idea. Lee Majors portrayed an American hero. We still need heroes not clowns.
I agree, when I was a kid, the SMDM was everything a hero should be. To cast Carrey in a role like this is downright insulting! Who do we write to complain about this? We need to axe this before it gets off the ground. What's next, a remake of Star Trek, the original series with Ray Romano as Kirk?
Its a damn travesty! Why must be water-down ever good thing that we have in society nowadays? Steve Austin as a joker? Come on people, haven't we learn that we should not try to fix things that aren't broken. Lee was an icon of a generation and its sad that his legacy shall be defiled by this comedic farce. I have no problem with Carey, he is a brilliant comedian. However, he should have used better judgement in agree to portray the SMDM.
While I agree that the Six Million Dollar Man had become really corny by the end of its run, you have to remember the era in which it came out - the mid 1970's. For a show that combined sci-fiction with action, mystery, adventure in a global environment of good-versus-evil where the good guys win, it was quite an impressive show. While I have enjoyed a number of Jim Carrey's movies and while I admire some of the work he has done (the Truman Show was perhaps one of his finest performances), I think it would be both tragic insult and an affront to the original inspirational ideas laid out in the original novels written by Martin Caidin which later were put on to the small screen with the T.V. show. A well-done 6M$Man movie with a good plot, good writing, and relatively unknown actors could have a lot of good drama combined with action and a bit of plausible science-fiction thrown in for good taste. In fact, if the movie did a better job of putting in scientific realism than the original T.V. series did, it could be an enormous success that is admired for years to come. I would be looking to writers, producers and directors who are more in line with movie efforts such as 2001, A.I., Minority Report, Gattica, etc. for developing the movie concept. Sorry Jim, but I won't be planning on watching a bastardized mockery of a this show.
A few more comments. This idea of a bad spoof just burns me too much. In contrast to suggestions by others, I would opt for an actor in his mid-30's who is relatively unknown in the movie business, to avoid the type-cast and baggage issues. No Matt Damon, no BenAffleck, and no Mark Wahlberg, although curiously I think a more cerebral and introspective Matt LeBlanc might be able to pull it off. If this movie had been made in the 1980's, I might have suggested casting Harrison Ford with possibly James Earl Jones as the "Oscar Goldman" character. These two had an amazing chemistry in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. Otherwise, it may be better to go to the farm team where some of the best actors are found ... Shakespearean stage actors.
A spoof is only good when it makes an indirect parody ... copying only the concept, not the actual copyright characters and story. That's why "Galaxy Quest" was an excellent and entertaining spoof, and it did not insult the "Star Trek" series from which it was drawing its inspiration.
Maybe Jim Carrey should make a business out of this.. he can start spoofing other T.V. shows and movies such as Mission Impossible, MASH, Gone with the Wind, etc., etc... The Sky is the Limit. I'm sure the original writers and cast members would appreciate it.
I think it's disgusting that SMDM will be a comedy. What were you people thinking? Obviously they weren't. I read all the posts and I agree with everyone else. I'm not even sure I would go to see this. Very dissapointing!
making the six million dollar man in to a comady is a very bad idea, yes make the movie but make it a true sci-fi not a joke
I am a die hard SMDM and BW fan. Jim Carrey in the role of Steve Austin would just be plain blasphemy. I was very disappointed in the Starsky and Hutch remake and to be perfectly honest thought taht Charlie's Angels was also a bit on the cheesy side. This show was the fantasy of every kid from 1973-1979. I still have SMDM on my screen saver. Please make this a drama/action scifi picture and not a spoof/comedy. Jim Carrey cannot play Steve Austin. He isn't even good looking enough.
erm.. just wanted to NO WAY!!!!!! what an utter tragedy! ... boo hoo!!! :-(
HIP, HIP, HOORAY!!! There is to be NO "Six Million Dollar Man" movie with Jim Carrey, hooray!! Also as far as I know no Chris Rock version as well. I did see a supposed Will Smith trailer on YouTube, but that also may not come to pass either. Yes, please only a serious movie nothing less! I've read somewhere?? on the net of a serious version being considered at one-time were the plot was that the Japanese are not as peaceful as they appear to have been after WWII and were secretly building a vast nuclear powered and armed submarine fleet in underwater caves to prevent satellites from noticing to once again try their hand at world domination!! That'd be cool, but I think the best thing to do would be a serious "Reader's Digest" condensed version of the first novel, and if a second movie the second novel, up to the fourth and final novel. And if they make a fifth keep it in line with the previous four. I don't like any of the choices above for Steve Austin so far, none of them would work-out except for a relatively unknown as the late Chris Reeve was and was Brandon Routh when signed to do Superman. The only well-known (big blockbuster, box-office) actor I could see in this role that I'm amazed no one has said so far is of course obvioulsy without a doubt...Brad Pitt!!! Not Mark Walhberg, not George Clooney, not Nick Cage, not Russell Crowe (although he might be good as Oscar), not Matt Damon, not Ben Affleck, not Colin Ferrell, not Hugh Jackman, not Matt LeBlanc, and not that Scientologist FREAK Tom Cruise!!! Mathew McCaughney is the only other good choice in the lot!! But Brad is the BEST of the household names, but I'd much prefer a newbie in the tilte role of Steve Austin. Also make it his left arm as in the Martin Caidin novels. Some people on other sites say he needs to be an entire bionic (android) body with Steve Austin's brain/mind transplanted into it. At the very least the doctors had better remember to give him a metal spine and back muscles to go with that bionic arm of his!!
Also Viggo Mortensen?? (not sure of spelling) might not be bad as Steve Austin. So I'd say:
#4 Matthew McCaughney, #3 Viggo Mortensen, #2 Brad Pitt, and #1 a reletive newcommer such as Christopher Reeve and Brandon Routh were for Superman!! I don't know who should play Oscar Goldman or Dr. Rudy Wells, but from the series this is the order in which I like them (I like all three) #3 Martin E. Brooks, #2 Alan Oppenheimer, and #1 Martin Balsam (since he looks the most like a doctor/scientist and a person named Rudy). So there for they should get someone who somewhat resembles the late Martin Balsam for the role of Dr. Rudy Wells. The other two look more like Jim's and Bob's to me not Rudy's. Neither Kevin Spacey nor Tommy Lee Jones looks like an Oscar to me. Morgan Freeman is the only good choice for the role despite the fact of being black and Oscar being Jewish, but the late Sammy Davis Jr. was both (born black and converted to Judaism), so that could still work out.
I WAS WISHING FOR QUITE SOMETIME FINALY GET TO SEE A MOVIE OF THIS 70'S EPISODES. THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN WAS MY FAVORITE SHOW WHEN I WAS A KID IN THE 1970'S. I HOPE THIS NEW MOVIE WILL MAKE ME EXCITED AGAIN AS I WAS WHEN I WAS A KID. I MYSELF HAVE A $60,000.00 FULL RIGHT LEG PROTHRSIS, AND IT ONLY WEIGHS 13 POUNDS, AND WORKS GREAT. MOST PEOPLE DONT REALIZE THIS FAKE LEG OF MINE UNTIL I WOULD TELL THEM.
this sucks don't do this to six million dollar man, this could be good thing, but not spoof with jim carey.do this movie right please
