P. Diddy: New York City Marathon Entrant
Are pigs flying? P.Diddy has entered the New York...wait, the ING New York City Marathon! The Post says that P.Diddy is looking raise money for a number of causes, including NYC school kids, an pediatric AIDS charity, and his own organization that mentors children (no, not Making the Band). The Diddy's sponsors include Nike, McDonald's, Foot Locker, MTV, Pinnacle Vitamins and Yucaipa book publishing, and while he did meet with Schools Chancellor Joel Klein and the Mayor, they will not be in attendance at P.Diddy's Niketown press conference.
Well, if P.Diddy's stunts are going to benefit all of those causes, that is really a nice gesture...and Gothamist can see it now: P.Diddy, wearing only the finest Sean John athletic gear...pissing over the side of the Verrazano...throwing down his Sean John sweatshirt on Fourth Avenue in Brooklyn... Wait, are we sure he hasn't hired a group of runners to carry him in a sedan the whole 26.2 miles?

NYRRC decided to go with ING in April.
I'm so excited about the Diddy running in the marathon because it is so insane. I have no idea about his fitness regimen, but as Matt points out, the umbrella wielding manservant? Please. Will he have a posse with him too, trailing around? I'd like to yell, "Do it, Diddy!" or "Do-Wa Diddy" in between yelling for various other industrious runners.
P Diddy needs to stop with the school kids, AIDs charities and mentoring and do what's important. Namely, buy out and manage the Knicks, which he said he would consider doing.

wow i really hope i get to run alongside him for part of this. it will be the highlight - kind of like me struggling behind the man in the naked fat woman suit last year.

Hm, I wonder where (and when, and if?) he's been doing his long runs. I did 18 miles last weekend in the park along with all the others in training, and didn't see him. Is he planning to run all 26.2 miles?

I am a college student in the state of Alabama and our state is facing an educational crisis in the public school system as well. Yesterday my roomate and I watched the show on MTV and because of your spark we are now putting something similar to what you have done for your city together. The Alabama public school system has went broke, inadequate funding. Most class rooms share books, no such thing as modern day technology and it`s sad. So we are now contacting celebs who were born and raised in the state of Alabama;Brian Mcknight, JOE, Charles Barkley, Robert Horry, Bo Jackson, Evander Holyfield, and Lionel Riche. Local Radio stations, Churchs, small and large businesses to help save our kids in the education system. We just wanted you to know that we appreciate your humanitarian acts and you have inspired us to help our community as well.

I read all of the comments posted before mine. You had a lot of people hatin' on you and expressing negative comments. Even though negativity was not your focus, you proved all if the nay sayers wrong.
From the very beginning I think it was ALL about the children and proving something to yourself. You could have easily whipped out your checkbook and made a donation, but that would have been too easy.
As a teacher, I would like to thank you for setting an example for our children. Hardwork is not an option; it is mandatory in order to develop into an optimal human being. It's never easy, and there will be many times when you just want to throw in the towel. That's just a fact of life. But thank you for sticking in there and attaining your goal despite the pitfalls and obstacles.
You must be extremely proud of yourself. Much respect and many blessings to you.
By the way, let this be a lesson to any nay sayer in any situation: NEVER, EVER SAY WHAT A PERSON CAN NOT DO. MORE SPECIFICALLY WHEN A PERSON IS ATTEMPTING SOMETHING POSITIVE & MEANINGFUL.
I finally have reason to respect P Diddy aside being worth hundreds of millions. Much props to P for running 26 miles in one day. I'm in fairly good shape and I'm winded after three miles. I don't think people realise how long 26 miles really is. Way to go Diddy.
I think what you are doing is heroic, and I personally appreciate the gesture. I recently have completed my career at public schooling and in my city of Louisville, Kentucky. And I just wish someone would have done that for me.
