Takashi Murakami

DOB in Wonderland

Takashi Murakami; Photo - Journal of Contemporary ArtJapanese pop artist Takashi Murakami is speaking tonight at the Public Art Fund. Best known for his subversions of Japanese anime images, and more recently embraced by fashionistas for his redesign of the Louis Vuitton bags (the colored LV logo), Gothamist loves his work and the fact that he splits his time between Tokyo and Brooklyn. He had a huge exhibit in Grand Central a few years ago, which had his sculptures hanging in Vanderbilt Hall. Check out more of his art here and here.

Look at his official website and his bio.

Beat Takeshi and Takashi Murakami? No way!

That interview is insane. It seems like some of it was lost in translation (both language and culture-wise), but it's still powerful stuff. I had realized that there was an undercurrent of darkness in his work, but not that his outlook was so utterly nihilist.

I love how Murakami is throwing up the deuces.

The knock-offs have already arrived on Canal St., $80 for the smallest one when I saw them over the weekend.

Damn! And that's dope. I'll have to check them out this weekend.

I like the contrast of the picture you chose to put up with this other picture you linked to.
